I spent a long time trying to find a unique design with the Kura bed frame but just wasn't satisfied. Finally I realized that none of the designs I found attempted to turn the bottom mattress perpendicular. This was a game changer for making the Kura to a twin and full bunk bed.As you can see in the photo, the top bunk is a normal twin. But on the bottom I built a simple platform with 1/4 plywood and a footprint slightly smaller than the full size mattress I wanted to use. I used som... IKEA KURA hack to fit a queen bed below the lofted twin. We used 2x4s with a 2x2 affixed inside around the three sides of the queen that extend outward from under the bed, another 2x4 with 2x2 along the right side under the twin, & a 2x2 on top of & against the loft frame on the left side of the queen at the foot of the twin frame. Then we added a center support 2x2 down the middle, slats, & the mattress. It's a tight fit on the sides, but it works! Minwax classic oak stain was a great match!
