one of the most life changing truths i’ve heard of is my mentor explaining to me that the vagina isn’t a hole when we were discussing french feminism
so the concept of ‘phallocentrism’ in french feminism refers to the idea that women are what men lack. and the widespread notion that the vagina is a hole is a symptom of that, because holes are incomplete and lack something. to that end, we have to rethink what a vagina is that isn’t fundamentally in the form of a ‘lacking’ because it doesn’t ‘lack’ anything like a hole does. its primary function isn’t just an ‘unfilled’, empty space like a hole is. bitch when i tell you my third eye opened !!! 👌🏿💯🔥😩😩😩📢📢🔥🔥💯💯
There’s an excellent short piece I’ll look up when I get home (written I think by a woman with the last name Martin?) called “The Egg and the Sperm” about how coded the language around this is. Specifically the idea that sperm are active, eggs are not avtive, and that sperm are produced lifelong whereas eggs are not, even though an egg has to be prepared actively every month.
It’s a cool little read that contains almost no difficult language- I’ll look it up later. I know I still have the pdf. So the whole concept of lack and lack of activity being built into how we talk about just basic reproductive functions was wild to me when I first read it a few years back.
I read this too. It impacted me greatly. I actually think of it often
This is the truest thing! Vaginas are not a hole. A vagina is two muscular walls pressed together, NOT the space in between them, which doesn’t even exist. I’d say 95% of anatomical figures and drawings are inaccurate on this point. They always show the vaginal canal as some wide open channel, as if in the midst of being spread apart by some invisible penis. I’ve never seen it represented in it’s resting state, it’s natural state.
People get so mad when the poors say things like this instead of “i’m so sowwy I will give up the few things my poor ass can even afford so that you don’t have to face any accountability for your actions”.
Women are told their whole life it is virtuous and morally right to put other people’s interests before their own….that is why women are at the front of the anti abortion movement, it is why they are such massive supporters of trans activism. Women have been socialised to believe anything just for women is not worth supporting, it is not ‘enough’ for something to just be for women
