i need more of sophia the victorian ghost

marzipanandminutiae:

Thank you

Sophia posts happen when I read something and I’m like “if you told a Victorian this, they’d think you were absolutely losing your mind”

with Jo-Ann closing, it was Some Places Just Will Not Have Anywhere To Buy Fabric In Person. do you even know how isolated you would have had to be to make that happen in 19th-century New England? there were very few places, even then, that would have had that situation in this region. it just wouldn’t have happened. how else would you get material for the tailor or dressmaker of your choice and economic bracket to make your clothes? they don’t keep stock themselves usually, you know!

obviously our clothes aren’t generally made custom for us anymore, so the need for fabric stores has shifted (though obviously not disappeared entirely- there are probably more home clothing-producers now than there were for most of the 19th century, believe it or not; most adults had their clothing made professionally back then). however the sheer number of clothing-related things you simply cannot buy in person anymore, in most of the US- or the lack of variety when you can -may not fully land for a lot of modern people, and I find that really sad.

the variety and number of different wardrobe goods that have historically been available in a city like Boston, where I live, was huge for centuries. and now it’s like…here are some big-box stores and a few boutiques that also sell low-quality plastic crap (but it costs more!!!). have fun. you cannot buy shoelaces with metal aglets anywhere in the city and there is like one (1) hosiery store still in business if you don’t want to pick from fifty shades of polyester socks at Marshall’s. godspeed if you need a mechanical watch or clock repaired. good luck with fabrics that aren’t plastic and/or the floppiest loosest jersey knit available, in a city that once had entire shops for just woolens specifically

this is part of why history education is so important: we have to know what’s possible so we realize what corporations are taking from us. or else we’ll just continue thinking this is normal, when we could be combining modern and historical knowledge to improve the future

This is why accessibilityis so important.

To everyone saying they recognize the program this was made in and thinks this was an architectural software — NO IT WASN’T. This is a player wearing an orca avatar in an MMO at a public humiliation/exposure fetish place and as soon as the orca entered that place he found it was a bunch of real life photographs of old guys bending over and exposing their assholes. After staring at a certain German guy’s picture for too long the guy in the picture noticed this (he was zoomed in) and messaged the orca some shit like “does Sir like what he sees?” “the slave thanks you for looking.” the orca didn’t have the social skills to handle this, tried to be polite, panicked, tried to turn around but since the avatar is so big it was like the Austin Powers truck driving scene and every way he turned he saw more babyboomer asshole. how do i know this? that orca, was me

tho this does explain the extremely half assed last minute april fools gag this year

really i think the key difference between david tennant and peter capaldi as fans of the show they were in is that david tennant’s childhood obsession shows through when he comes face to face with elisabeth sladen in school reunion with all the joy of someone who was in love with the show as a kid in the 70s. you know, like a normal person. (by doctor who standards.) whereas peter capaldi’s childhood obsession shows through when he comes face to face with creepy mummy-like cybermen based off a partly-lost william hartnell serial which is deeply deeply disturbing on a psychological level with all the glee of someone who was disturbed on a psychological level by the show as a kid in the 60s

Hear me out: Untitled Goose Game in Ankh-Morpork…

Think of all the mayhem you could create.

(I really really want so bad this game/DLC to exist. So much potential. @house_house_ call me (or, better, call the Pratchetts))

Next drawing: the Post!

Thinking about how Bellini and Tedesco refer to the conclave as a spiritual war and any other perspective as naive, but their black and white mentality ultimately reveals their cowardice, and how it’s Thomas’ stalwart faith and love in his fellow man, his refusal to see his brothers as anything other than human, that is proven and ultimately prevails when Benítez is elected
