The Boy Who Slept In Late (and subsequently saved the world)
this idea has been rattling around my head for a while but it keeps getting bigger and bigger, so i decided to just get something written down and poof! the intro was done. any interest in a darker themed Pokémon rewrite focusing on continuity and character development?
Satoshi was pretty sure he didn’t fall asleep in the same place he woke up that morning, which is particularly unsettling because the pokeball patterned blue comforter beneath him was certainly his; just as the room he was in.
Moments after he opened his eyes and seemingly took in his childhood room, his current room, the only room he’s ever known, the squawk of a Pidgey calls from his desk. Satoshi’s quick to silence the voltorb alarm, nearly tripping over the stuffed snorlax that laid half-hazardly on the ground beside his bed. If Pikachu had tripped on it, he’d have to endure an entirely unnecessary lecture.
The six o’clock sun shone lightly through his window and, after a harsh glare at his bare legs, he changed into longer lounge pants he didn’t remember being so hard to find. Setting out to tidy up the space, it was a pleasant surprise to see not much really cluttered it.
Besides the loose clothes thrown about there weren’t many items needing homes or covering this desk space. Deciding to head downstairs, Satoshi made one last careful scan of the room before letting out a tentative, “Pikachu?”
No one answered, and an upsetting realization that he wasn’t supposed to have done that settled upon him.
“Satoshi?”
Turning, he saw a frail figure counterbalancing a basket of laundry against one hip by leaning against the stair banister.
“Mom?” He questioned, before shaking his head in a jerky manner and stepping forward to grab the basket from her. “Good morning.”
A warm smile spread across her face and she patted his head gently. “You must be excited to get your pokemon partner from Professor Oak today. You don’t have to do the laundry for me, love, go have some breakfast and be excited.”
Not releasing his grip on the wicker, Satoshi gently put a hand on his mothers shoulder. “Come down stairs with me, I’ll make you some coffee. Why don’t we fold it together on the patio?” She looked surprised again and something began to bleed in his heart. Why does it feel this way?
She nodded lightly, “I’m going to freshen up and I’ll meet you down there.”
He was taking his first step down the stairs when she called his name again, and her warm smile greeted him once more; “I love you.”
“I love you too mom.”
Setting the basket on the counter, Satoshi set out to grab two mugs and the paper filter before gathering the grounded coffee beans. He had a few things on his mind and would need a much larger cup than he would typically drink.
This would be especially true for his mother, who he’s pretty sure has never seen her son drink coffee in a cup of any size. Another thing he’s pretty sure of was the call to a Pokémon Center in Alola informing him of his mothers passing he answered before going to sleep last night.
