There is a Muslim revert on TikTok who is getting exposed for lying about their ethnic identity while also using their religious identity to speak over Palestinians who disagreed with them and I am honestly so sick and tired of seeing people get away with talking over Palestinians just because they happen to be Muslim.
There is a false notion that just because someone is Muslim they have some inherent knowledge about Palestine and are somehow adjacent to us even though Palestinians don’t all share the same faith.
*It is erasure*. It’s how we get to places where grifters like Shaun King and Khaled Beydoun are making money off of Palestinian suffering for their Eid events or taking credit for the decades of work Palestinians have done. It’s how we get to replacing “Palestinians” with “Muslims” in media, how Muslim Zionists use their religion to support the genocide of Palestinians, or how Palestinians of other faiths get pushed to the side within their own movement.
I still remember back in 2021 seeing people who were Muslim using Palestinians being beaten and lynched in the streets to share their own Paypals and GFMs because it was “so painful for them to watch”. Literally posts saying “If you’re Muslim drop your payment info so we can support you better” in the face of Palestinian mass murder.
It’s obvious that islamophobia plays a role in the demonization and killing of Palestinians but being Muslim doesn’t make you entitled to a position over Palestinian voices and experiences, and it’s completely ignorant to act like the root of this genocide is religion and not colonialism and imperialism. “as a Muslim-” doesn’t matter when its Palestinians being murdered and bombed to death for being Palestinian.
i remember something when king converted and pushed his bullshit cashgrabs, that said something to the effect of “well if palestinian resiliency brings people to islam and Allah then that’s good, and im glad he converted” as if the only thing preventing more people from converting was showing more images of palestinian suffering, and as if that was the primary purpose of what was being shown.
