ATHENAAAAAAAAAAA
Second try at an Athena design and I’m happy to report this is much more like how I’ve been picturing her in my head for the past 4-6 years.
Some things and headcanons i’d like to note::
- while I didn’t draw it here, I do imagine some sigil like markings on Athena’s back and arms, representing where her owl wings come out when she chooses to have them appear
- not sure why but i’ve always imagined athena with both gold and silver armor aspects. i think seeing different interpretations over the years influenced that decision, where i couldn’t choose between the two lol. didn’t draw it here but i would have designed her shield the same color as her spear
- gilded boots! again, did not draw them here because the lineart and coloring here already took 4-5 days so wtv. i imagine them mostly gold, looking like your typical grecian armor, with silver accents and snakes carved into them
- i headcanon that annabeth looks very similar to athena in facial features and hair type, that if Annabeth were to ever style her hair in braids, the resemblance would be uncanny (why she sticks to a ponytail instead)
- i know a lot of people design athena with blue elements and while i think that’s an awesome design choice and i don’t disagree with it, my personal headcanons have always imagined athena with more gold, red, white and sunset kinda color themes. while being a goddess of wisdom, weaving, etc. she’s also a goddess of war at the end of the day and i think red really incorporates that well. in my aries design (which i will post eventually) he too has red elements, just a lot more black and bronze.
- the golden string in the background is an attempt at her golden thread in which she weaves with. i actually think more weaving athena representation is in order!! i totally see her using it in battle and overall taking a much bigger presence in her godly abilities!!
ty for reading the yap -
p.s. this is my athena design for both pjo and epic. i personally see them as the same figure.
ghost stories are alarmingly easy to spread tbh
when I was like ten I was walking back from the chip shop near my gran’s house with a neighbour and we took a short cut down an alley which was enclosed by garages except for one part which was wire fenced and led to the electricity shack
and while I was walking I chucked a chip over the fence. the girl walking with me, C, reasonably asks why I did that
“oh, don’t you know?” I say, as if I’m not equally out of my own loop
she shakes her head. the enclosed alleyway has no streetlights. it’s after dark. the shack is isolated in the distance.
“a little girl who lived up on the court climbed the fence once on a dare. she went up to the shack and touched it, but there was a wire sticking out, and when she touched it, she got electrocuted and died, right there. if you come back in the daylight, you can still see the black mark.”
[editor’s note: the court was the smaller road off the side of the crescent, which was the one C’s family and my gran lived on. the houses there were slightly more expensive and newer, almost all occupied by wealthy commuters to the city, where most of the crescent houses were occupied by retirees and locals who worked on the trading estate. naturally, crescent kids hated the court. houses there got bricked about once a month.]
“no she didn’t,” C says
I made up this story for absolutely no reason and with no plan, but I’m not gonna back down now. “sure she did. and if you go past on your way back from the shops and you don’t leave her an offering, she’ll follow you home through the streetlights. one flickers behind you, then the next, then the next, until you get home. and then the lights start to flocked inside the house. even if you turn out all the electrics before bed, it’ll be too late. she’s inside. and you’ll wake up on the night and see her, and she’ll be so awful to see it’ll stop your heart.”
[editor’s note: the streetlights always flickered. this was because our neighbour monkey george kept setting the junction boxes on fire]
“I never did before and she never followed me home!”
“do you come down the alley after dark? or do you take the main road with the streetlights?” I knew she didn’t use the shortcut, because I’d been the one to talk her into it that night. she was three years younger than me and scared of the dark.
C claims not to believe me, but she throws a chip over the fence too, and walks the rest of the way looking over her shoulder. I get to pride myself for the night on being good at scary stories, and don’t think much more about it.
fast forward six or seven years. I’m back in town. I’m on my way back from the chip shop, taking the same shortcut home. ahead of me on the road are a couple of kids I vaguely recognise as old playmates’ younger siblings.
they stop, and I watch one fish out three sweeties from the pack they’re sharing. they take one each and throw them over the fence. they carry on walking.
I realise that this is probably my fault, as are any resulting pest control issues around the old electricity shack.
when I get to the fence, I throw a chip over.

Old but gold. I think this fanart might be good for a first postᕙ(ಠ ਊ ಠ)ᕗ
I’m gonna upload older works for now and then start with recent ones.
I hate the sound of babies crying, but I can’t hate a baby. They’ve been here for like five minutes and approach this situation with an unhesitant attitude of “my needs are unmet and I am going to make it everybody’s problem”, and I respect that.
Something I read years ago and completely agree with, is that human babies are pretty helpless compared to many other species. We can’t walk or run within hours of being born, as many mammals can. We don’t have teeth yet, to defend ourselves. We can’t get our own food for a long time.
But one thing human babies are really good at - often within seconds of being born - is asking for help.
As we mature and gain new skills - vocabulary both verbal and written, gestures, facial expressions, and so forth - the way we ask for help changes. But babies have just one way of asking for help - filling their lungs with air and wailing. And they’re right to do so! Their needs are unmet and they cannot do a damn thing about it except request assistance.
There’s plenty of adults who could stand to take some pointers.
