Board of education
Appearance
A board of education, school committee or school board is the board of directors or board of trustees of a school, local school district or anything like those.
In the United States
[change | change source]For over a century, local boards were responsible for public education funding, standards, instruction, and results. To a extent is still true. At their height in the 1930s, there were as many as 127,500 boards. Some rural states had more school board members than teachers. Such boards looked over school systems serving agrarian and industrial economies.[1]
