Nicholas Caradoc Hoult (born 7 December 1989) is an English actor. His first well known roles were as Hank McCoy / Beast, first appearing in the movie X-Men: First Class, and as Tony in Skins.

Hoult then appeared in the movies Warm Bodies, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Favourite, Tolkien and The Menu. On television, he was nominated for a BAFTA Award and an Emmy Award for his role as Peter III of Russia in The Great.

Hoult began acting since he was 3 years old.[2]

At the age of 17, he played the character Tony Stonem in the British series Skins (2007-2008), a role that helped him make the transition from child actor to darker roles in the movie industry, achieving success and recognition.[3] And not It would not be until a decade later that he would return to a series to play Emperor Peter III of Russia in The Great (2020-2023), which gave him nominations for two Golden Globe Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award.

He began acting in Hollywood, beginning with the drama A Single Man (2019), for which he earned a BAFTA nomination. He appeared in the movies Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) and Young Ones (2014); the fantasy movies Clash of the Titans (2010) and Jack the Giant Slayer (2013); the superhero movies X-Men: First Class (2011), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and Dark Phoenix (2019); the biographical movies Rebel in the Rye (2017) and Tolkien (2019); the romantic comedies Warm Bodies (2013) and Equals (2015); the black comedies Kill your friends (2015), The Favourite (2018), The Menu (2022) and Renfield (2023); the drama movies Dark Places (2015), Sand Castle (2017), The Current War (2019), and True History of the Kelly Gang (2019); and the gothic horror movie Nosferatu (2024).

Hoult is also a voice actor, providing his voice to narrations, audiobooks[4] and various animated characters; such as the animated character Ace in the movie Metegol (2013), the rabbit Fiver in the acclaimed British miniseries Watership Down (2018), the character of Patrick in the adult stop-motion movie Crossing Swords (2020-2021) or to the character of Jon Arbuckle in the animated movie The Garfield Movie (2024).

At the Trafalgar Studios theater in London he starred in the play New Boy in 2009.[5] He appeared on the annual Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2012.[6] He also appeared in a music video by The Rolling Stones.[7] He is a member of the Academy of Arts and American Film Sciences [8] and has his own movie production company known as Dead Duck Films.[9]

In November 2023, it was announced that Hoult will play Lex Luthor in Superman from director James Gunn as part of the DC Universe.[15]

Hoult is the father of two children with the model Bryana Holly.[16][17][18][16]
