Roman Opałka

Roman Opałka (27 August 1931 – 6 August 2011) was a Polish painter. He was born in France. The style of art he made is called Conceptual art. He died at age 79 after falling ill while on holiday in Italy.
Work
[change | change source]In 1965, in his studio in Warsaw, Opałka began painting numbers from one to infinity. He painted these numbers in small lines, starting at the top-left of the canvas. This project became his life's work. He used it to represent time itself.
The final number he painted was 5,607,249.
Exhibitions
[change | change source]Opałka participated in many important international exhibitions. These included Documenta in Kassel, Germany, in 1977; the São Paulo Bienal in 1987; and the Venice Biennale, in 1995, 2003, 2011 and 2013.
