Deleted "The octopus is also called the devil fish"
[change source]I deleted "The octopus is also called the devil fish." I think this is wrong. There is a kind of cephalopod called the vampire squid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_squid) -- which is not a squid or an octopus but is similar to both. "Devil fish" is the name of a kind of ray (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_fish). Cedibciz (talk) 06:58, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, you're right. I believe they used to call manta rays "devil fish" because they were big and black and leaped out of the water, frightening sailors...even though they are not fish, and these gentle rays are certainly not devils.Classical Esther (talk) 08:13, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- see Devil fish at EnWP. We do have an article on Vampire squids, though. Rays are cartilaginous fishes, like sharks. --Eptalon (talk) 20:38, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
An Embarrassingly Bad Entry
[change source]I get that this is a simple english wikipedia, but there is no excuse for the only information on Octopuses to have come from a young earth Christian creationist book/website. The reference used simply doesn't qualify as a good enough reference on the subject and should be changed and all information on the page should be revised.
- So fix it, that is what wikipedia is all about. Wikipedia doesn't get better unless people like you get involved. -DJSasso (talk) 18:17, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- The comment, though unsigned, is to the point. Macdonald-ross (talk) 18:20, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
