Replacement files

Last BG update: 23rd of march 2005. Game version: 1.113.297.1020 DX11

Disclaimer: HQ replacement files do not add the actual game content to your game, it just replaces the textures with high resolutio ones. You still have to purchase the respective game packs.

All replacement files in one spot: LINK I ALTERNATIVE (if your game is up to date, get the base game files from the most recent BG folder)

Important notes:

  • The HQ files are complete. Additional HQ files from other sources are not required.
  • If you encounter issues or missing files, please let us know.
  • You need to download at least all base game files (BG_6,7,8, eyes). Add additional packs if you want them to be HQ. Exception: If you own EP12 (Highschool Years), you also need to download HQ files for it. In this case, using HQ BG files without also using HQ EP12 files will cause weird glitches.
  • Place the .package files in your mods folder
  • If you want to use default eye replacements, delete the “eye_diffuse” file from the respective HQ files (e. g. “BG_HQ_eyes_diffuse” for basegame, “GP04_HQ_eyes_diffuse for vampires), or place them in an overrides folder: LINK.
  • The once separate file for default skin replacements was removed in order to make the maintenance process more streamlined. Any default replacements can be used with an overrides folder: LINK.
  • WW-compatible skin tones are now separate and to be used with an overrides folder. Find them here: LINK
  • EP04 (cats&dogs): Fur paint mode (pets, foxes, horses, werewolves) is not working. It never has and maybe never will. Trying to use paint mode while HQ mod is on will cause the game to crash. Workaround: Paint the fur without HQ mod and export the pattern with cmar’s coat converter; or create it outside the game to begin with. Make it HQ-compatible and create it as cc to be applied independently from fur paint mode (e.g. as accessory or nose colour).
  • Predefined fur patterns (‘templates’) now work for pets (EP04), werewolves (GP12) and horses (EP14).
  • EP18 (businesses&hobbies): Tattoo paint mode cannot be used while HQ mod is enabled. Just like pet fur paint mode, it will cause the game to crash.
  • EP11 (cottage living): As of now, foxes are only working with HQ when their texture is replaced by a HQ-compatible one. This, however, makes all foxes look the same. We therefore separated the fox textures (EP11_HQ_Fox). You could replace this texture and use it as a default replacement, or leave it out to enjoy the randomly generated foxes, at least without HQ mod.
  • SP49 (crystal collections): The game will crash when you try to wear a crafted crystal item although the proper files are in place. There’s no known fix at the moment.
