redjennies:

as a hater, it’s important to keep in mind that true fandom is a long game. for example, yeah, it’s fucking annoying when you genuinely enjoy a show or something for multiple reasons and it happens to have gay people (or people who could be read as gay) in it and so the fandom gets flooded with the kind of fans who are literally just here for the “Hot New Thing to Slash Ship” and therefore have bad opinions on everything because they think entirely in shallow fanfic tropes and are going to get mad every time something doesn’t line up perfectly with their fanfics, but with time they will move on to the next “Hot New Thing to Slash Ship,” and you’ll realize your real enemy is and has always been That One Blogger who Sincerely Loves this Show as Much as You But Has the Worst Fucking Opinions on Planet Earth.

Dr Anne Reynolds in The Ωmega Factor (for @lerios and @stopmyhearts)

okay so now we’re all on the same page here are the REASONS YOU WANT TO WATCH OMEGA FACTOR (that are not just the beautiful woman pictured)

  • do you like spooky things? do you like unethical women doing science? do you like conspiracies and commentary about politicians being the worst? yes!!! omega factor has it for you! (well, the audios do a much better job but shhh)
  • do you like audios? do you like audios that are really fucking good and come from the deranged mind of louise jameson? omega factor!! not only do the audios take a series that sort of doesn’t make sense and was fine and make it good, but they’re REALLY REALLY GOOD - they’re spooky, they’re scary, there are ghosts. louise jameson. what more do you want!
  • unethical woman doing science! like genuinely she is such a wonderful character. again, the tv series is a bit… interesting when it comes to her characterisation but the audios make her into an older woman who loves her job and decides sometimes science is more important than ethics - and the narrative doesn’t punish her for it! wow!
  • do you like the gothic? do you like edinburgh and scotland? do you like to try and make tv make sense in your mind even when it doesn’t really? OMEGA FACTOR!!!

Random Leela tangent, but re- her and regeneration…

so as you probably know I’m a massive stickler for established canon in my personal canon - the only time I can justify deviating from something a story established is if a different story contradicts it. And in established Big Finish canon (if that even is the appropriate word to use there) Leela survives the Time War but without the support of Gallifrey ages to death in a Z'nai prison shortly afterwords. While I know that I have friends who dislike that plot point on principle (and that is of course valid), I am actually a big fan of how that gets handled and consider it a fitting out from the character.

And if you don’t know what the heck I’m talking about, I’m talking about the Companion Chronicles The Catalyst, Empathy Games, The Time Vampire, and The Child.

Except, actually not. Leela dies at the end of The Time Vampire. The framing narrative for The Child is Leela post-mortem, having been reincarnated as a child named Emily. Some remanent of Leela’s consciousness remains as Emily’s imaginary friend.

And an idea that’s been kicking around in my head is, well, what if Leela could regenerate after all? If, instead of dying in the Z'nai prison, Leela regenerated into Emily?

Not really going anywhere with that but since we’ve been talking about the Time Lordification of Leela again I figure its a good time to bring that up
