Pre-writing skills are important because they are the foundation for learning how to write. They help children develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and the ability to hold and move a pencil fluently. These skills help children write legibly and efficiently.   Children develop pre-writing skills by scribbling, drawing, and coloring. They also learn to hold and use a pencil and to copy shapes and letters. Children who have difficulty with pre-writing skills may struggle with writing later on. They may also have difficulty with reading.
