New blog intro!


howdy! you can call me Sleepy or Rose (that’s not my real name) and welcome to the place I call my ‘little blog’. I’m in a constant pursuit of finding other writers and/or cool people.

this is my reading and writing focused blog! I will *hopefully* only really be posting those things on here but who knows

I have two active alt accounts if you think I’m cool and want something not on here or whatever, I don’t know. @eye-motive for all things fiction podcast/audio drama related (basically only the magnus archives and malevolent) and @sleepyrxserambles which is all things not writing, reading or podcasts (mostly reblogs, Link Click and some other fandom stuff)

quick facts about me that can explain some of my writing and posts:

-I’m aroace and nonbinary (I use xe/xem and they/them pronouns)

-I like fantasy books. specifically paranormal romance books. however, I mostly write dystopian.

-My favorite author is TJ Klune. i have read almost all of his books and my goal for 2025 is to read the rest of them (I post about his books a lot-)

-I struggle with writers block CONSTANTLY. I complain about it a lot

-I WILL DO TAG GAMES!!!! PLEASE TAG ME IN THEM!!!! They may sit in my drafts for a few weeks…or months…but I promise i’ll do them eventually!!!! I see them I promise!!!

-Two authors that greatly influence my writing are Brandon Sanderson and TJ Klune, just in like how I phrase things. I think it’s interesting to take elements of things I’ve read and blend it with my own style of writing

-i’ve also gotten into script writing! kinda! well…I just started to but i’m excited to explore that world more in the upcoming year.

Sometimes I’m embarrassed that my favorite movie is Luca. You know the one with the fish people and is 100% made for young kids

and then I rewatch it and I’m no longer embarrassed because it is a amazing movie about accepting those who are different from you

the only thing that does embarrass me that I’ve watched it so many times that I have large amounts memorized and can put names to a lot of the background music in the movie

also that one time I went to Disneyland and asked if they had anything from the movie and the staff said ‘a lot of kids have asked about that’ and then I cried because they had like nothing from the movie I liked except a pin. I think that was actually the most embarrassing thing because I am not in fact a kid.

i genuinely think boats are such good places to set a story because it automatically gives you a set of really interesting circumstances -- boats are transitory, you are not meant to stay on them forever, there is an automatic assumption of ending up somewhere different from where you started...characters are forced into close proximity, stakes are higher, etc. boats also just look cool, so that's always a plus

Will now be thinking about what to do with boats my interest has been peaked and no one can stop this from happening no one but one person but it’ll be fine (it’s me) (I’m that one person)

Author rant incoming, but I don't know what pisses me off more: lazy assholes who act like they're 'the real deal' because they have an AI make a book or story for them.

Or actual authors who have no class solidarity & use AI slop for their covers.

I can't be the only one who gets pissed at that. There is just so much here to say about how little solidarity there is between different types of creatives, how easily one group will get rid of another because they can save up on money or they already get most of the money. The recent strikes for actors and animators are proof enough that some people got theirs so they don't care about other creatives.

But as a writer who's dirt poor & STILL would never consider using AI for a book cover, I can't help but be bloody disappointed in these people.

It's like that adage of 'if you couldn't be bothered to make it, why should I be bothered to consume it?' Except it's 'if you couldn't be bothered to support a fellow creative, why should I support you?'

I have been trying tea and writing down how they taste and how much I like them for a year and a half now. I am definitely not an expert yet. I try around 3 or 4 new teas a week, on average :> Tea is amazing, but be careful with how much you drink!! I used to drink between 6 and 8 litres a day, until I started reacting badly to the caffeine. Have fun and experiment!!!

I found a really good herbal loose leaf tea that tastes like a fist full of flowers I’ve been drinking a pretty dang often. It’s so good

and I’m also going to look into the teas you recommended because they actually both sound so good, lol

I’m still going to find more teas I like, especially I’m going to try more herbal and oolong teas

until it was mentioned to me

I didn’t realize the full potential of one of my characters slipping in and out of dimensions

like, what do you mean every time he goes to the other dimension his heart stops beating and he dies in real time and once he’s back everything starts working normally again except some chest pain?

what do you mean he is the son of a death god and it actually makes such perfect sense for his character?

I love my little guy so much <3

he can literally die every Tuesday at 8:36 pm and be perfectly fine and have barely any physical consequences

so I get to do it as many times as story relevant with out there being any complications, right?

…like you know if he’s gone for too long or it starts happening so often that it starts hurting him more until he’s at the point of going back one of two more times will permanently kill him however he has no control over when and how often he goes to the pocket dimension…

no complications at all!
