at this point I know I will never identify as q***r for numerous reasons but it’s like 20% trauma associated with homophobic abuse and 80% the way people who do identify that way react to other people’s discomfort with the word. you cannot browbeat someone into agreeing with you and then tell them it’s “empowerment”

I’m not changing the language of my identity as a queer person as a genderqueer person for your delicate sensibilities. My being queer has nothing to do with your triggers. I am not responsible for what triggers you. If you were so easily offended, try therapy.
Censoring the words that we call ourselves doesn’t solve any problems. I’m trans, I can call myself a tranny. I’m gay, I can call myself a fagot. I’m queer so I call myself queer. In our community we can call ourselves those things. If you continue to allow a word that has been reclaimed to control your life that’s kind of fucked up. We are supposed to be a community that stands together and supports each other. Lately we haven’t been that. All of the LGB without the TQ people. The gays for Trump people. It’s bad enough that we’re separating our own community to try to seem more palatable. What the fuck is wrong with us? Truly the last thing we need to do is to censor the language that we use to describe ourselves.
You will not take my words from me, the words that I use to define who I am. I am QUEER and you’re just going to have to fucking deal with that.
It’s great that you personally feel comfortable calling yourself that. I never at any point said you could not call yourself that. But I won’t call myself that because of the way the word has been used against me in the past, and you can’t force other LGBT people who have been hurt by the word to become comfortable with it. Me censoring words that myself and my friends find triggering on my own blog has nothing to do with YOU. YOU are the one making something about yourself that is not. YOU are going to have to deal with the fact that not everyone is comfortable using the same language as you.
