To continue my adventure trying to post more of my writing to get over my crippling anxiety about everyone hating my stories, I've finished another chapter of my deeply self indulgent Star trek Voyager fan fic that completely ignores canon!

A brief summery - Micah Williams is a Lieutenant on Voyager. While surveying a star system his shuttle wanders into a plasma storm and is damaged. Before it crashes into a M-class world he manages to transport out, only to find the planet he's on is a pre-warp civilization. One of the indigenous people, Spark, saves his life and helps him escape, committing treason in the process. To repay them saving his life, Micah helps them obtain asylum on Voyager and start a new life aboard the ship.

Quark was probably a more successful ferengi than a lot of Trekkies give him credit for. I mean, The Ferengi Alliance is literally late stage capitalism with space ships. Just imagine how impoverished most ferengi probably are. We know the kind of slave wages Quark was paying his staff where 2 more slips of latinum a week is a good raise as per Profit and Lace. At least one of his ferengi workers was considerably older than him. The one who begans begging Brunt for mercy in Bar Association by saying how he's old and weak. That guy is not retiring ever, at least not before Grand Nagus Rom's reforms. We also find out in Family Business that Quark's father was very poor when he died and probably wouldn't have been able to leave either of his son's much. So, the fact he earned his way up from the cook on a freighter is saying something about how savvy he is.

It's not really that Quark is a bad business man. Ferengi society is just so stacked against the poor that he seems like one from all his set backs. In fact, we are honestly probably looking at the upper middle class of ferengi society. Their poor and working class likely have it a lot worse.

I know most people don't care about anything unless it has to do with the U.S. but can we please start talking about the Canadian election.

Please don't vote for Poilievre. He's basically the Canadian Trump and plans to put in place laws that harm trans youth, and lots of other shit.

Please vote istg this is the only way anything will get better. Poilievre has been kissing millionaires and billionaires asses. He'll make life even harder, and he loves Trump.

Reblogs are appreciated, especially if you aren't Canadian.

The thing that I don't see very much talked about is the apparently quark is 36 years old. Like 36-year-olds not 100 or old in his people standards apparently but 36 years old.

image

Now if we take into consideration the lifespan of his species the ferengi, which apparently live to 300 years. He was really young in comparison if we go biologic that they consider different ages than ours adolescence young adult and adult and elderly. I will note though that in the brief research I did not find any conclusion that said that 36 necessarily did not mean in terms of human or Ferengi years.

image

It's also note that I am also taking knowledge from how vulcan's describe the age in the show that being that they mature differently, it is interesting to note that they seem to have from what I found out a lifespan around apparently 200

image

This is though interesting as this does give us kind of a lot of lore and story background which could correlate to how sometimes people react if he is young in his species standards then literally a lot of things can kind of be explained He's a young upstart trying to literally climb the ladder early on.

image

Look at our sweet guy trying so hard to cool climb the corporate ladder to such a young age you go guy live our dream, live our dream.

Note: this is only service level research as I just got this question in my head and it's 1:00 in the morning. The screenshots are from the surface level research I did do and no I'm not going to try and delve more into it I'm tired. Night night 🌃🌉💤💤💤💤

Have you ever looked closely at a car windshield?

The edge of the glass is painted where it is glued to the car but it has these small dots between the clear and painted glass.

These are there for a reason. When the sun hits the glass the painted areas and the clear areas will absorb heat at different rates. This causes the glass to expand and contract differently putting stress on the glass.

These dots help the glass to warm up more evenly over a larger area so the glass does not suffer stress that could cause it to spontaneously explode.

Fun fact: the Tesla cybertruck doesn’t have these.

Yes, the glass will spontaneously crack or explode in the sun.

nothing funnier to me than when AI does math wrong. like I get why it happens, it's a language model that's treating the numbers you feed it as words rather than integers and then giving you an answer based on how those words typically appear in a block of text instead of actually performing a calculation. but the one thing computers are genuinely incredible at. you fucked up a perfectly good calculator is what you did, look at it it's got hallucinations
