Sora started out as the son of those who served the royal family of Radiant Garden, growing up alongside the princess, Kairi, and fellow servant boy Riku. One faithful night, he finds himself in possession of a mythical weapon called the Keyblade while his home is destroyed by dark forces. He journeys throughout the Enchanted Forest, making new allies and lifelong friends as he does so. Eventually, both he and Riku attain their dreams of knighthood. They and Kairi settle down to rebuild their kingdom and fight back against the Darkness. That is, until, the Evil Queen casts the Dark Curse upon the land.
Under the effect of the Evil Queen’s curse, Sora becomes known as Kalani Amano. In Storybrooke, Kalani is an average high school student who works part-time at Granny’s Diner. What he does specifically is unclear, as many have seen him waiting tables, helping in the kitchen and running deliveries.
