thinking about the lyric strap the wing to me / death trap clad happily / with wax melted i meet the sea again, and i would go absolutely feral if i could follow a tumblr that posts thoughtful line by line analyses of hozier’s lyrics.

i mean just the rhythm of it, the sharp single-syllable death and trap and clad followed by the 3-syllable happily, the juxtaposition of the morbid imagery with the joy of enacting it! the economy of the phrasing!! even the initial strap the wing to me - just the one wing! strap! and i’m not putting it on, i’m telling you to strap it to me! it’s a death trap! clad happily!

i am absolutely incoherent and never had the skill to explicate poetry but i have a lot of feelings about hozier’s writing and wish someone better would do that work for me. all i can do is !!!!!
