i made a character sheet. free to use as you wish, feel free to change whatever you want XD open source ass thing. spent all of ~maybe an hour on it.

Credit: the text in the insert-image box comes from this video, and the text for the top three lines (intense, complex, fruity) comes from this post. The actual image was made with the free NBOS character sheet creator, which is a sort of dated but free and solid text-layout sheet maker intended for ttrpg style character sheet creation.

this is GENUINELY one of the best character development sheets I've ever seen. Cuts right to the core of what you and your readers will glom onto, doesn't waste time on details that don't directly affect the narrative. Stupendous. Effervescent. Finally, some good fucking food

me and coworker: okay. we're getting rid of a ton of old records. they're sorted into price piles, you just need to write down the price and stick them to the record sleeve. if it doesn't have a sleeve, do not stick it to the vinyl bit, because the adhesive gunks up the grooves and affects how they play. okay?

new guy: yeah man!

us checking up on him 20 minutes later: 😨😂

why didn’t gandalf just carry the ring to mordor himself with these tongs

like i’m picturing him being really careful and looking at it and carrying it exactly like this while walking or riding through the woods and across rivers and up mountains and through valleys and he doesn’t drop it even once except at the very end where he tidily drops it into the volcano. frodo sam and the crew and even gollum wholly undisturbed. sauron can’t find him bc of the meditative aura surrounding him which is generated by his immense focus on not dropping it

y'all know that whole left-brained/right-brained thing is fake right? and the "brain fully develops at age 25" thing? and the "we only use 10% of our brains" thing? yeah they're all complete horseshit please yell at anyone who says them

dragon-in-a-fez

okay people are doing nuance in the notes about the kernels of truth in neuroscience myths but I really really need you to understand that that is not important here. people don't believe there are "right-brained" and "left-brained" people because they've misunderstood lateralisation of the central nervous system, they believe it because that binary framework was deliberately pushed by people who wanted to define who was logical enough to lead, and surprise surprise, white adult heterosexual men are left-brained. people don't believe the brain "finishes developing at 25" because they've misunderstood life stage differences in neuroplasticity, they believe it because the idea that children, teens, and young adults have inferior brains is a convenient rationalisation for a society that marginalises them. people don't believe you "only use 10% of your brain" because they misread an fMRI study, they believe it because it's useful bullshit for everyone from hyperindividualist historical revisionists pushing the great genius concept of scientific progress to hucksters recruiting for cults that will teach you to unlock your latent telekinesis for just $5000 a month. that's why it's fucking important to know that many popular science ideas are false and to push back on them loudly and frequently, because they're not just mildly incorrect, they are often active components of systems of violence.

the ‘your brain doesn’t stop developing until—‘ people are also just using it to infantalize women and neurodivergent people

The reason they put the death penalty on the table for Luigi is as a threat. Both to the people of America and to Luigi himself.

They want him to take a plea. They want him to plead guilty. To swear in front of a court of law that he did the crime and the NYPD solved the case.

They don't want to have to prove it. They don't want to take it to trial and have the world see what a farce it all is.

So they said "say you're guilty or we'll kill you".

That's why the death penalty is on the table. To remind him and the American people that the punishment for not blindly agreeing with the police is death.

Okay, so Merry’s quote about being found after the battle of “It’s not always a misfortune being overlooked” implies that it’s happened to him before.

Our poor overlooked hobbit, he’s so perceptive, brave as hell, and so sweet. He’s also honestly probably the smartest of the hobbits, and he is, unfortunately overlooked quite a bit.

Like everyone who has seen only the movies kind of think of him as mainly Pippin’s sidekick, funny, and a bit brave, but I think the movies did not do his intelligence justice. I just saw a post online that read “rank the four hobbits” and not one person had Merry first, and only a few had him second, and that is just disheartening. Sam was mainly everyone’s number one or only choice.

Sam is a wonderful hobbit, and he stands up so much, pushing himself and protecting Frodo. But we can also see Merry standing up, protecting Pippin when he can, being brave enough to sneak into a battle he was asked to stay out of simply because he wants to help in any way he can, and again, he’s quite literally the smartest of those four hobbits.

I love Sam so much, and he deserves all the love he gets, but I think Merry needs a bit more love out there, because, just like in the movies and books, he is overlooked in the world.

I’m fine with Thorin being taller than Bilbo, but there’s something unsettling about seeing tall!Thorin (Richard behind the scenes in costume)

Like, Richard in makeup and a hoodie? Beautiful, majestic

Richard in his full costume standing next to Ian? Terrifying

Gimli making sure the hobbits are always warm, grumbling about their “ridiculous lack of insulation” while secretly tucking extra blankets around them at night.

Gimli telling Legolas stories of Erebor, watching with satisfaction as the elf actually listens with genuine interest.

Gimli subtly keeping an eye on Boromir, recognizing the weight of duty in his stance and understanding it more than he lets on.

Gimli showing Pippin how to properly hold an axe, despite muttering that it’s “too big for a hobbit” (but still making sure it fits him well).

Gimli standing guard with Aragorn, sharing quiet words about fallen kin, kings, and the legacies they carry.

Gimli speaking gently to Frodo when he sees the exhaustion in his eyes, reminding him that even the strongest stone needs rest.

Gimli taking the time to properly sharpen everyone’s weapons, because “if we’re fighting for our lives, we may as well do it properly.”

Gimli proving, time and time again, that he is more than just a warrior—he is a friend, a shield, and a heart as unyielding as the mountains he calls home.
