MOSCOW, February 6. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered to perform a comprehensive revision of school programs on mathematics and natural sciences and make them understandable and interesting for students at the meeting of the Council for Science and Education.

Technology development
Russia should not be merely self-sufficient in key sectors needed for the country; there is a need to achieve its superiority from the standpoint of domestic science-intensive technologies and local produce.
School programs
School programs on mathematics and natural sciences require comprehensive upgrading. The level of teaching mathematics and natural sciences should be high across the country.
Higher education
"Archaic courses and programs not meeting demands of the economy" should be removed from university programs for technical specialists. An opportunity for phased professional education should be provided for when developing the regulatory base for the new model of higher education.
Special and additional education
From one third to a half of already working Russian engineers and technicians require further training. "In this connection, I wait for specific proposals on updating, significant quality improvement, and coverage by additional professional education," the head of state said.
