Kiev would like to provoke war between US, Russia, Zelensky’s office admits

Mikhail Podolyak’s remarks came as a response to the question as to whether there is a scenario where the US president "will go for deploying some forces to Ukraine in order to return those very mineral resources that are being talked about now"

MOSCOW, February 7. /TASS/. Adviser to Vladimir Zelensky’s office Mikhail Podolyak has confirmed that Kiev would like to provoke a direct military conflict between the US and Russia because it will benefit Ukraine.

"Well, you and I can speculate about anything in the world but there are rational things. <...> It is not necessary to let it get to a direct confrontation between America and Russia, but undoubtedly, it would have been much better for us, because this is a war on a completely different level, but we do realize that it is too complex," he said on RBC-Ukraine’s YouTube channel.

Podolyak’s remarks came as a response to the host’s question as to whether there is a scenario where US President Donald Trump "will go for deploying some forces to Ukraine in order to return those very mineral resources that are being talked about now."

On October 16, 2024, Zelensky submitted to Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada a "peace plan" consisting of five provisions. The fourth provision, dedicated to the economy, envisions the joint protection of Ukraine’s vital resources, particularly, uranium, titanium, lithium, and graphite. According to Zelensky, this provision has a secret addendum, provided only to the Kiev regime’s certain partners.

In early February, Trump said that the US was interested in getting rare-earth metals from Ukraine and asked for relevant guarantees because it provides major support for the Ukrainian side.
