The Workshop trains K-12 teachers how to use online tools with their students, which are designed to foster higher-order thinking skills, and combine technology and disciplinary content, with projectbased learning activities. We found that the range in project types that were developed demonstrated that teachers, like their students, are learners in the process of understanding the higher-order thinking skills and concepts targeted by the tools. This research has implications for in-service teachers, teacher educators, and student learning.

Previously we developed the Tweet Capture and Clustering System (TCCS) in order to explore how teachers use Twitter, looking at word usage among a group of teacher tweeters, and attempting to find clusters of teachers who have similar patterns of word usage in their tweets. In the work reported here, we look at teacher tweeters across the 12 months of 2016, seeking to understand how the clusters and the words used in these clusters vary from month to month. In this initial look at the dynamics of the system, we see some evidence of word usage changing across the 12-month period. This initial work suggests that extending TCCS to have temporal topic tracing as a core capability will...

In this work, we develop a computational system, Tweet Capture and Clustering System (TCCS), to support exploration of teachers using Twitter. In particular, TCCS looks at the tweets of a group of teacher tweeters and a list of words of interest, and seeks to identify subgroups of these teacher tweeters who have similar word-usage patterns. In the study reported here, we gather tweets from public Twitter accounts of self-identified teachers over an 11-month period. Through the use of TCCS, we have identified five distinct clusters of teacher tweeters, based on their word usage. Three of these five clusters are defined by the use of moral words. We find that the development and application of computational ...

Furman uses her own story of her early years as a classroom teacher, woven with a narrative by Vivian Paley, You Can’t Say You Can’t Play, to demonstrate the claims she makes about the role that texts she designates as reflective teacher narratives (RTNs) play in the development of a teacher’s practical wisdom. Within the essay, Furman writes her own RTN, using her own experiences to show the importance of developing practical wisdom.

Our neighborhoods were hard[ly near]by each other’s and we all met on the subway...race relations were both strained and vital. There were legendary, and maybe just rumored, incidents between the mostly white GO Club and the mostly black Pearls, but there were also scores of white kids listening to Parliament and Sly Stone, and black kids, like EZE 1, digging Zeppelin and Sabbath.

Through searches that cross-referenced commonly used identity terms (e.g., gender, LGBT) with terms describing prominent areas in the LIS field (e.g., libraries, archives), we collected quantitative data and visualized our results using Gephi and Tableau Public. Our methodology, analysis of our findings and next steps are informed by critical approaches to LIS practice, particularly queer theory and critical race theory. Our visualizations show that general identity terms are common in the literature, while discussion of particular identities is scarce and intersectionality, rare.

He relished writing with the MOB crew in the 1/9 train yard in Riverdale, New York; the smell of a Pilot marker and spray paint mingling as an intoxicating ether of adolescent artistry. His inspiration was more than just the thrill of committing a minor crime, or so Smith suggests:
