I’m a lover, not a fighter, dear. That’s every Poison Ivy action figure comes with one of him.”

Hey everyone! If you don’t know me, I’m Sundrop. You can call me any nickname you want - including Nisha, Bunnie, Sunny, whatever. I use she/her pronouns, I’m autistic, bisexual, and polyamarous. You can find my lovely boyfriends @nctzenkane and @spectre-of-sin - and there are others that I talk about on here who don’t have Tumblr so they can’t be tagged. I love breaking down stereotypes around polyamory, so if you have any questions about it, feel free to ask me.

I am chronically ill, and I often make posts about my struggles with disability and medical trauma. And if I ever randomly disappear from Tumblr, that’s why.

I am into horror movies, DC, Teen Wolf, Fall Out Boy, badass female characters and pathetic whimpering men, squishmallows, cooking shows, and cheesy reality shows from the 2000s, among many other things. I always reblog stuff about my interests, and if you ever need me to trigger tag something (especially if it’s horror related) please let me know.

I am a fanfic writer, and I primarily write x reader fanfiction, and it’s my passion to turn this genre into a true artform. I mostly write plot heavy smut, but I also love writing angst and other plot driven romance fics. Right now my main fandom is Teen Wolf. If you want to see all the fanfiction I have written for all the fandoms I enjoy, then you can view my Main Masterlist or my AO3. (Note - my AO3 is archive locked, so you will need an account to view it.)

If you are interested in fanfiction, then head over to my fanfiction sideblog @sundrop-writes - that is where I make posts updating people on my process, make fanfiction polls to help decide which fics I will be working on next, and post my new fics once they are finished. This blog is more for my personal bs, and less about my fics. (Even though the line is very blurred lmao.)

It’s so wild being a huge fan of something that is largely unpopular among other ‘fans’ of that thing

Because due to algorithms, I will be liking posts and be in tags that are for my favourite thing - in this case, Titans

And I will be subjected to posts like:

“Titans is the worst show DC has ever done”

“I hate Titans so much”

“Titans Red Hood is the worst version of the character”

“What the fuck did Titans do to Beast Boy and Starfire 😭”

“How did Titans cast Brenton Thwaites as Nightwing and then fumble him so bad”

Like ugh shut up shut up shut up shut up

I just saw someone say “there is no ethical consumption under capitalism” as an argument for boycotting AO3

Babe AO3 is a nonprofit. They do not exist under the ethics of capitalism. Fanfiction is legal because no money is ever exchanged around it. (All the money given to AO3 is used to maintain their servers and pay their lawyers to help keep fanfiction legal.)

Fanfiction is one of the few things in this world - probably the one singular form of entertainment that does not exist within the confines of capitalism. So by your own logic, even if you hate some of the content on AO3, it’s inherently the only ethical thing to consume in the whole world.

(Of course not the only thing, that is a vast exaggeration. But yes, one of the things.)

Money has been exchanged around fanfic in the past. Before the internet, fanfic was printed in zines and sold - selling the zines was the only way to cover the cost of producing them and sometimes mailing them.

There were fanfic communities that wrote, printed, and mailed fics to each other without charging. They had rules for participation, like “you have to contribute fics” or “you have to mail the fics back/on to the next person on the list at your own cost,” because - I cannot emphasize this enough - SHARING TEXT USED TO COST MONEY.

A lot of money, for some people. Photocopies in the 60s and 70s were not cheap. Mimeographs were commonly used instead.

There were fic publishers that were selling for just enough to cover the cost of printing & mailing. There were others that were selling at a profit and trying to make a living at it. (Those generally also did editing/layout.)

That all changed when the internet made it free to share text.

The laws for selling fanart and selling fanfic aren’t notably different. But the fact is: Most commercial properties don’t go after someone selling fanart, especially if it’s in private venues or one-off commissions instead of creating an art book or their own comics. They do go after someone publishing books using their characters.

AO3 is partially non-commercial to avoid one of the big copyright issues. However, infringement isn’t based entirely on something making money. Napster and Demonoid weren’t shut down because people were making a profit. AO3’s claim is that the majority of fanfic is transformative, not derivative - which means it’d probably be non-infringing even if it were sold. And of course, fanfic of Shakespeare, of Jane Austen’s works, of Sherlock Holmes - those are all in the public domain so there’s no copyright issues, but AO3 does not allow ads on them, either.

AO3 is non-commercial so there is a non-commercial fan space.

Want a fanfic space where you can also advertise your pro works (which was common in the paper zine era)? Spin up your own AO3 clone and share it there.

Want to advertise on AO3? Fuck no. It’s built around the promise of NO ADS HERE. The only reason anyone wants to advertise there is because people aren’t already bombarded with thousands of other ads like they are here, on twitter/x, on bluesy, on Discord… they want to be the one exception to the “no ads here” space.

No ads. No exceptions. The whole rest of the internet is available for creative people to look for customers.

I am way too tired to respond to this point by point.

Yes, people used to buy zines because zines cost money. And it does make sense to charge for something if it cost you money. Now fanfiction is free to produce.

And no, laws around fanfiction haven’t changed since then but the spotlight on fanfiction has changed.

Back then, knowledge of fanfiction was kept within fan communities and not widely publicized where authors of the original work could potentially see it - fanfiction was much more ‘underground’.

But in our time, I still think it’s far too legally risky to charge for fanfiction (especially now that fanfiction is completely free to produce) because you’re widely publizing your activis on the internet where everyone can see you - including the original copyright holders, who now have solid proof of your illegal activities via your posts.

Even if you’re not discussing payment on AO3, even if you’re only doing one off commissions - no matter what, money should be kept away from fanfiction, because all it takes is one pissed off author/original copyright holder to start suing to cause a bunch of fanfiction writers to go into hiding and start scattering like cockroaches from the light, trying to avoid litigation that they cannot afford.

Just think about how many people deleted their fics from AO3 when they heard Project 2025 might take down AO3 (which is still unsubstantiated) and how many people completely deleted their fics from AO3 due to massive AI scraping. When panic strikes the fanfiction community, people start mass deleting. Art is lost.

And the only way to avoid that kind of panic is to avoid starting cause for any kind of legal action toward fanfiction authors - including avoiding selling fanfiction in any facet. No fanfiction Patreons, no fanfiction specific ko-fis, no commissions, no binding and selling hard copies, etc. (And before someone jumps down my throat, I am not saying you can’t print out and bind fanfiction for fun - just DON’T FUCKING SELL IT!!!)

Anyway, yeah. I think that’s it.

Comedians in the ‘70s and cartoons in the '90s: weird how your kids can watch violence and murder on TV but the FCC wants us dead if we say the word nipple.

Internet users in 2025: you didn’t warn me that there would be erotic themes in the game you just mentioned which is fucked up because I thought it was going to be a normal “morally struggle with killing people” game but now it’s gone too far :-/

A lot of you are playing into a lot more reactionary of hands than I think you would like when you act like tits are more shocking than gun violence.

We need to call people posers again. We gotta. We just gotta. No you aren’t a countercultural weirdo because you made a battle jacket, you get tangibly viscerally uncomfortable if someone is breast feeding in public and that is incredibly square of you.

You are and will forever be the supreme authority when it comes to Jason Todd. I genuinely don't want to listen to anyone but you talk about him. "Nobody gets him like I do" nah nobody gets him like YOU do

omg this literally made me blush. this is literally the highest compliment to me omg

and okay - last night while I was trying to fall asleep, I was literally ‘writing out’ this big long Titans analysis post in my head (nothing like some good old fashioned hyperfixation to help ya fall asleep past the chronic pain) - and so - I will treat you to some of my Jason thoughts <33 because I was thinking about his character arc through the whole show and how it works SO WELL (except for the ending… I hate how he ends up alone. I mean it weirdly makes sense for him but I still HATE IT)

so - at first glance, his character from Season 1 and then him from Season 2 and Season 3 (and even the short bit that he was there during Season 4) can come off as completely different characters. Season 1 Jason is happy, excitable, smiley, and Jason in the other seasons is grumpy, emo, traumatized, etc.

but when you look closer, it makes so much sense.

it’s about Dick.

Jason is excited to meet Dick. it’s actually heavily my theory that Jason lied about getting the 'go head’ from Bruce to meet Dick, and he probably used his privileges on the Bat Computer to find Dick via the tracker - especially because Jason says to Dick “you don’t remember him putting it (the tracker) in?” - so Jason has memories of Bruce putting the tracking device in him (which, Bruce putting tracking implants in Jason and Dick as if they are fucking zoo animals is a whole different level of weird, but Bruce doing it to Dick while he was UNCONSCIOUS and didn’t know about it - Titans!Bruce Wayne is a whole different BREED like omg)

Titans analysis still goes so hard. I could ramble about these guys for hours

no actually i don’t think antivaxxers’ kids should die from a disease. i don’t think gun advocates’ kids should die in school shooting. children dying is bad actually, even if they’re children of people you don’t like.

Part of “Children are not the property of their parents” is “Children should not suffer for their parents’ decisions.”
