Abdulmaula HAMZA
I was born in 1972 in northeast suburbs of Tripoli, Libya, I went to public schools in Naser and Assahel localities, then in October 1990 I joined Zoology Department at the University of Tripoli. for my BSc thesis I studied Varroa mites infestation of Honey bee hives, since then I became an amateur bee-keeper. I have worked during my study in a Photoshop (where I learned photography) for a few years.
After graduation with B.Sc. Zoology, I have had worked for two years as biology teacher in secondary school of Suq Eljomma, then I moved for a full time job at the Environment General Authority (EGA) of Libya. During my second year as research assistant, I have started my first postgraduate study on part-time basis at University of Tripoli, My master thesis on Ecology of freshwater gastropods at Ain Taourgha, Libya. In September 2003 I won a scholarship to study another Master of Research (M.Res) in Biodiversity and Conservation at the University of Leeds. In 2004 to rejoined my work in EGA as Head of Marine and Wildlife Conservation Department. Since then I have conducted several research projects on marine and coastal habitats and endangered species of Libya, in particular on Sea turtle nesting assessments and conservation www.libstp.net, Mediterranean Monk Seal habitats in Libya, mapping Posidonia seagrass, wetland conservation, wintering waterbird census and sea-bird ecology and conservation (see publications).
Between October 2008 and March 2013 I have achieved my PhD in Biological Sciences (Lesser Crested terns of Libya, Breeding, feeding ecology, migration and population genetics) at the University of Hull, with Prof. Mike Elliott and Dr. Nick Cutts (IECS).
I am now (July 2014- ) starting an exciting new phase of my career, at the Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, as a lecturer at the school of Marine Science and Environment.
My interests:
Meeting and reading on other cultures, Nature Photography, Bird watching, Travelling to wildlife attractions.
