Synopsis
The recruits are looking forward to their imminent graduation from their first year of training, though as Medix reminds everyone, they still have one last test. Heatwave calls them to Hero Hall where their teachers have already assembled. Their final test will be to compete against the teachers carrying a rescue victim in a relay through a series of obstacles—the recruits have to carry Tough Luck Chuck while the teachers are stuck with Grimlock. The recruits manage to outrun the teachers in every test, earning them top place.
As they celebrate, Optimus Prime arrives to congratulate them and brings a surprise—Hot Shot's old friend Scorch. Scorch wants Hot Shot to join his Cube team, the Cyberblazers, for the Cube championship finals. Hot Shot's uncertain about this as he's already part of a team. He and the other recruits fail to impress Scorch with the machinery they've repaired. A rescue alert gives them another opportunity, but despite their daring rescue of window washer Frank, Scorch is left wondering what the point is when they have to remain incognito. He also suggests that the team didn't need Hot Shot for the rescue, as all Hot Shot did was finish cleaning the windows. Scorch leaves for one last practice before the game.
Hot Shot is practicing Cube in the gym when Whirl arrives with news: Wedge has worked out that there's only one first year sim left they haven't done. The sim turns out to be a forest fire, however Scorch's earlier words have demoralized Hot Shot, who hesitates and the recruits fail the simulation. Later the other recruits are unable to find Hot Shot, until they track him down to the GroundBridge room. Hot Shot has decided to quit the team and return to Cybertron with Scorch. There's a round of goodbye hugs before Hot Shot heads through the space bridge, leaving his shell-shocked teammates behind.

Quotes
"Your friend is kind of a... what's the Earth term again? Ah yes-"
- —Medix is cut off by an alarm.
"Thanks for everything, guys. And, look at you. Four's a much better number, like the original Rescue Bots. Maybe this is how it was always supposed to be."
- —Hot Shot
Notes
Continuity notes
- Wedge's section of the relay appears to take place in a simulation of the Dig Fest arena.
- Heatwave's speedboat and Chase's police car alternate modes make their first appearances in this show. Heatwave's standard fire truck mode has previously been seen, however this is the first time Chase has been seen in anything other than robot mode (although, it's hard to see much of it with Grimlock mounted on top...).
- As a going away gift, Cody presents Hot Shot with the Rubber Duck previously seen in "Lucky Ducky".
