Jacques Frantz

Jacques Frantz (April 4, 1947 - March 17, 2021) was a French actor, very active in voice acting, in addition to his roles in numerous films and TV series. He also played in various theater plays.
He was the regular French voice of Robert De Niro, John Goodman, Mel Gibson, Stellan Skarsgård, Steve Martin and Nick Nolte. In animation, he is the French voice of Pacha in The Emperor's New Groove, John Silver in Treasure Planet, Jacques Sullivan in Monsters, Inc. and King Fergus in Brave, among various other voice roles.
He has briefly been the voice of Obelix, after the passing of his iconic voice Pierre Tornade. He voiced the Gaulish in Asterix and the Vikings and in the Asterix at the Olympic Games video game. However, since 2014, actor Guillaume Briat took over the role for the animated films and games.
He also performed numerous voice overs in several documentaries and commercials, for radio and television.
On March 17, 2021, his daughter (and also actress) Marjorie Frantz announced on social media that Jacques passed away, following a serious disease.

- As Frantz was already dubbing Optimus Prime in the saga, John Goodman's role as Hound for Age of Extinction and The Last Knight was dubbed by Benoît Allemane.
- Following the passing of Jacques Frantz, Patrick Messe took over the role of Optimus Prime for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
