The fact The Transformers: The Movie was released late in Japan causes issues in the discussion of the cartoon.

Synopsis
Optimus Prime asks for a reminder of what they were discussing and Bumblebee recalls it's how Transformers 2010 follows on from the original cartoon. Optimus hands the discussion to Rodimus who outlines how Rodimus Prime has taken over Autobot leadership and the cartoon picks up five years after that. Lockdown protests that this seems like a sudden change, to which Optimus responds that it was all explained in The Transformers: The Movie which wasn't released in Japan at the time. When Lockdown insists the circumstances needed to be better explained, Rodimus accuses him of being picky, but he perseveres. Bumblebee reveals that there was a campaign at the time telling people that Optimus was dead. Lockdown isn't satisfied, but the others insist they've wasted enough time on this and have Rodimus press on with the explanation.
Rodimus outlines how Megatron is now Galvatron and also the Autobots are battling the Quintessons. The Autobots find the Quintesson's five faces and tentacles hilarious and start laughing, at which point Lockdown flies into a rage, yelling that no one will be able to keep up if they haven't seen the movie. Optimus proposes they think of a way to better explain the movie's story. He comes up with the idea of playing a cut down version of the movie showing just the highlights, with him, Bumblebee and Lockdown providing an audio commentary, and leave enough of the movie out to not spoil the whole thing. Bumblebee tries to make sense of this, leading to Optimus visibly sweating as he tries to explain the concept that it will somehow mean the movie is still unreleased. The others remain confused and finally Bumblebee asks if they're done.
