- Wreck-Gar is an Autobot-allied Junkion from the Generation 1 continuity family.
Wreck-Gar is a product of his environment. Unfortunately, this environment is the Planet of Junkion, a distant world of trash which is bombarded by old Earth television broadcasts. Not only is Wreck-Gar's mismatched body collected from the detritus around him, but his mind is an equally mismatched hodgepodge of Earthling pop culture. These humans' cheesy slogans and sales pitches from decades past form the patchwork of Wreck-Gar's scatterbrained personality.
It is with this demeanor that Wreck-Gar leads the Junkions, a tribe (or possibly race) of junk-robot Transformers who inhabit his world. Despite the pop culture of his race being derived from strangers light years away, Wreck-Gar can be strongly xenophobic towards intruders. Thankfully, this attitude is easily broken, and once he befriends you, he will be a selfless ally. He oversees his people's daily activities of "sorting" through their planet's collection of scrap, though what basis they use to sort the material has yet to be identified. Something of a romantic, Wreck-Gar has been known to woo several Junkion ladies in different universes, including Nancy and Rum-Maj.
In battle, Wreck-Gar is easy to knock down, but near-impossible to keep down, thanks to the unique physiology of the Junkions. He tends to lose pieces easily when he takes damage, but he can repair that damage with lightning speed, and it's possible that even if he's reduced to a pile of parts it's only a short time before he's back on his feet again swinging his axe. This rapid-healing ability reaches almost instantaneous speed on his home planet of Junk, or anywhere he can get his hands on scrap metal. Wreck-Gar wields, in addition to his energy axe, a decelerator laser that can bring the cerebral activity of its victim to a lumbering halt.
Steadfast and dependable, powerful and unexpectedly wise, Wreck-Gar reveals himself to be much more than the sum of his parts.

When a ship crash-landed on the planet of Junk, Wreck-Gar at first viewed the invaders as thieves and enemies. But he and his Junkions chose not to engage them immediately, and kept out of sight while other invaders attacked and destroyed the initial group's leader. This moment of weakness was when Wreck-Gar chose to attack. After getting the invaders on the run, Wreck-Gar fought one of them for a while, cornering him, before one of the smaller, squishier invaders took him out with an I-beam to the back of the head.
Wreck-Gar came to just as more invaders arrived: Hot Rod, Kup, Wheelie and the Dinobots. After some explanations and introductions, Wreck-Gar and his Junkions were pacified with the universal greeting. After Wreck-Gar ordered the Junkions to rebuild Ultra Magnus, their fallen leader, he joined forces with these "Autobots" in their quest to destroy the planet-eater, Unicron, once and for all. With the press of a few buttons, Wreck-Gar unleashed a ship from underneath the wreckage of his planet of junk, suitable for escorting his new comrades to the planet Cybertron, where Unicron was headed next.
The Junkions, like pretty much everyone else, didn't fare well against Unicron. Their ship managed to last longer than most in the battle, proving to be highly resistant to Unicron's fire-breath (due in part certainly to the Junkions' rapid-repair skills), but was ultimately crushed by Unicron's hand.
Wreck-Gar survived, as did their Autobot travel mates, appearing with the rest of Rodimus Prime's Autobot team on Cybertron after Unicron's destruction. The Transformers: The Movie
On the planet Goo, Rodimus and Ultra Magnus communicated with Wreck-Gar using a two-way TV. Surprised at the sight of his kemosabes being healthy on a dangerous planet like Goo, he was nonetheless capable of striking up a deal with Rodimus. During a battle with Galvatron and the Quintessons, Wreck-Gar was able to control the planet so that it would suck the Autobots into safety while rejecting their enemies. After that, he calmed Arcee by reviving a previously disassembled Springer faster than snap, crackle, pop. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4
Tricked into boarding a Quintesson scientist's ship (disguised as a junky television shuttle), Wreck-Gar was placed into a completely sterile room. The Quintesson speculated that being removed from the messiest place in the universe and put in a clean room would send Wreck-Gar into a fetal position of shock and despair; instead, Wreck-Gar tore the room apart until it resembled the surface of Junk, then sat down on a large chunk of metal, happily proclaiming "Home sweet home!" He then met his fellow study subjects: Ultra Magnus, Cyclonus, and Marissa Faireborn. When the ship was caught in an electron storm, Wreck-Gar fired his detachable hand at the cell controls, disabling the bars, then battled the Quintessons' bodyguard, losing his weapon-arm in the process (which he easily fixed). However, the ship was caught in the grip of a black hole, and Wreck-Gar was part of an escape pod scuffle that left everyone stranded on the ship as it was pulled into a negative universe. He then used some of his components, along with ones from the other Transformers, to fix the ship and allow them to escape the black hole.
He is one of the few beings in the galaxy who likes clowns. The Killing Jar
Wreck-Gar interrupted one of Kup's stories to inform him of a calamity on Goo, to Grimlock's confusion and frustration. When they arrived, Wreck-Gar pointed the Autobots to a destroyed Earth Defense Command station and said that a lot of things have landed on the planet lately. Though Runamuck and Blast Off swooped down to attack, Wreck-Gar and the others made their getaway inside Sky Lynx. Arriving on Dread, Wreck-Gar helped fight off the Predacons that were menacing Kup, and then shot at Galvatron's forces with the other Autobots. While they did this, Kup was able to defeat the monster inhabiting Dread, causing a volcanic eruption in the process. Wreck-Gar and his comrades boarded Sky Lynx and flew off... but he was not pleased at the prospect of Kup telling another one of his stories on the way back. Chaos
Joining Blaster, Rewind, Ramhorn, and Perceptor on a mission to examine strange chronal energy readings in an asteroid belt, Wreck-Gar got more than he bargained for when they were attacked by a legion of Sharkticons. After chopping apart his fair share of the brutes, he was accidentally sent back in time nine million years along with everyone except Perceptor, to when the Quintessons ruled Cybertron. After fleeing from a guardian robot and teaming up with a rebel Autobot group, Wreck-Gar aided the others in their attack on the Quintessons' base, which would have ended in their untimely demise if A-3 had not returned to the past and deactivated the Guardians, forcing the Quintessons to flee. The time-displaced Autobots then returned to their proper era. Forever Is a Long Time Coming
One day, Wreck-Gar was watching television with his lady friend, but little did they know that Quintessons were spying on them. Wreck-Gar and his Junkions forced off the Quintessons and their Sharkticon pawns, but the Quintessons, aware of Wreck-Gar's love for television, inserted subliminal messages into his programs. These messages managed to convince him and his species to clean the planet and attack all other life forms, Autobot and Decepticon included. Now the centerpiece of their master plan, the hypnotized Wreck-Gar sent a Quintesson broadcast throughout the galaxy, causing tension between all forms of life that now refused to accept each other. Blaster was able to counter the transmissions with some of his own, and Wreck-Gar returned to the Autobots' side. The Big Broadcast of 2006
Wreck-Gar followed Galvatron down an old shaft with a team of other Autobots when the Decepticon came to Cybertron looking for Perceptor's new power core. They only found an array of mutants, whom the Autobots soundly fought off. They were unprepared for what came next; a colossal beast that trapped Ultra Magnus. Wreck-Gar saved Magnus with his axe while yelling a familiar battle cry, but got himself caught in the process. Wreck-Gar bemoaned his fate as the Dweller drained him of his energy. The angered Springer managed to recover his friend's body, but he discovered that Wreck-Gar had now become an energy vampire, bent on taking the energy from other beings. Wreck-Gar promptly infected Springer, and later got to many other Transformers (including Scourge and Cyclonus!), and would not stop there. Thinking quickly, Perceptor created an energy imbalance that returned the vampires to their normal states. The Dweller in the Depths
During the outbreak of the Hate Plague, Rodimus Prime summoned Wreck-Gar to attempt to repair Optimus Prime, but unfortunately, he was dead, Jim. Wreck-Gar remained on Earth to assist in trying to stop the hate plague, showing up later to rescue Rodimus from the infected Ultra Magnus, but this quickly proved unsuccessful as Ultra Magnus escaped Wreck-Gar's lasso and infected him. In turn, Wreck-Gar infected Rodimus Prime. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1 His warehouses were overstocked with hate plague priced to move, for a limited time only.

The Headmasters cartoon

- Voice actor: Ryōichi Tanaka (Japanese)
In 2011, Wreck-Gar was hanging out at Autobot headquarters on Cybertron when Galvatron and his new Headmaster warriors attacked the planet. He merely pointed out the Decepticons' attack being shown on the telly and (successfully) bossed Grimlock around before running off to try to help anyone who might have fallen and been unable to get up. While Kup and Spike were debating the weakness in Vector Sigma, he told them to make sure operators were standing by and darted back off into the hallway, never to be seen again. After a group of Autobots crash-landed on the planet of Junk, Wreck-Gar and his fellow Junkions saw their intrusion as an unwelcomed one... especially after the Autobots began "stealing" their garbage to repair their ship! Wreck-Gar ordered several Junk Guns brought forth to blast the Autobots, but didn't get a chance to use them before another arrival made his presence known: Galvatron! The Junkions held back as the Decepticon leader and his lackeys opened fire on the Autobots, ripped their leader to shreds and took off with a bauble the Autobots had with them at the time.
The fighting having come to an end, Wreck-Gar led a charge against the remaining Autobots, only to be once more interrupted; another ship made planetfall, containing yet more Autobots! One of the latest arrivals spoke the universal greeting and offered Wreck-Gar some "tasty sticks," which he readily accepted. Now friends with Hot Rod and his kin, Wreck-Gar had his men rebuild Ultra Magnus as his show of good faith. The Autobots next told their hosts that they had to leave to confront the world-eater, Unicron, a battle the Junkions were eager to be a part of. Wreck-Gar revealed that planet Junk itself was a sort of Transformer, and converted it into a massive spacecraft to do battle with the titan. Though things looked grim when the Autobots' craft wound up crashing into the enemy, they soon escaped from Unicron's body, the latter then exploding thanks to the actions the Autobots had taken part in while inside him. The Final Battle!
After the destruction of Unicron, Wreck-Gar remained on Cybertron for a time and helped the Autobots regain control of the planet while attempting to fend off Decepticon attacks under the new command of Shockwave. Wanted: Galvatron — Dead or Alive! When Rodimus Prime planned a time travel adventure to end the threat posed by former Decepticon commander, Galvatron, Wreck-Gar decided to come along and leapt into the time-jump effect at the last second, causing his landing vector to be significantly displaced away from his fellow travelers. Burning Sky! Stumbling across the deactivated body of Bumblebee by chance, Wreck-Gar put his considerable mechanical talents to work and rebuilt the scrapped Autobot into a new form as Goldbug. The two then joined Wreck-Gar's allies and the present-day Ultra Magnus in an attempt to stop Galvatron's schemes. Hunters Wreck-Gar managed to get a hold of Galvatron's time jump trigger device, and planned to jury rig the device to send all the time travelers permanently back to 2007. His recalibrations failed, though, and the Autobots returned to the future while Galvatron remained in the past. Fire on High! Vicious Circle!
Still, Wreck-Gar had proven himself a worthy ally, and Rodimus gave him an official escort back to the planet of Junk and his people. Upon arriving home, however, Wreck-Gar stumbled into a plot by the Dark God himself, Unicron, to co-opt the planet Junk as a new body. It seems Unicron's head had blown free when his original body was destroyed by the Matrix and had drifted into range of the planetoid. Unicron's vast mental powers had enabled him to enslave the entire Junkion people, and Wreck-Gar was forced to "cancel" one of his fellow Junkions while making his escape, an act for which he swore Unicron would pay dearly. After escaping Death's Head, another of Unicron's mind-pawns, Wreck-Gar gathered a large quantity of explosives directly underneath Unicron's head and set them to blow. He managed to destroy what was left of Unicron's body just as Rodimus Prime contained the Chaos-Bringer's living essence within the confines of the Matrix, ending his threat for the moment. The Legacy of Unicron!
Sometime later, by sheer cosmic chance, Wreck-Gar came into possession of a Quintesson Journal, a message canister containing details of their plans to leave the dying planet Quintessa and colonize other mechanical worlds, including Cybertron. When he attempted to bring this information to Rodimus Prime and the Autobots, Wreck-Gar was intercepted en route by the Quintessons and taken captive. Space Pirates! They tried to torture the location of the canister out of him, but all they got was total nonsense. The Big Broadcast of 2006 Managing to escape, Wreck-Gar hooked up with an Autobot spy named Wheelie, and the two of them blasted off from Quintessa. After eluding his pursuers, Wreck-Gar met up with some of his fellow Junkions and rigged the message canister so that its contents were broadcast across the universe. Instantly, all the potential colony worlds were alerted and forewarned of the possibility of a Quintesson invasion, and overnight the Quintessons became one of the most hated and hunted races in all the galaxies, throwing all their future plans into turmoil. The Big Broadcast of 2006
In a strange alternate future, Wreck-Gar and his lady were interrupted in their television watching by a Sharkticon attack. Wreck-Gar rallied his fellow Junkions to repel the invaders. He didn't know that the Sharkticons were sent by the Quintessons to look for their data canisters which, during the fight, was hopelessly lost amongst all the junk. The Quintessons then initiated a new plan which involved beaming a hypnotic signal through the Junkions' televisions. The signal made the Junkions extremely hostile to any foreigners as well as compelling them to meticulously organize their junk. In this way the Junkions would find the data canister for the Quintessons. In an encounter with the Aerialbots, the hypnotic signal was momentarily altered to compel Wreck-Gar to bounce the signal throughout the galaxy, causing television watchers everywhere to attack their neighbors and travel to Junkion.
The Autobots also arrived and successfully disrupted the hypnosis signal. Once freed, Wreck-Gar and his Junkions joined the Autobots in driving the Decepticons off the planet. Rodimus Prime questioned Wreck-Gar about what had transpired, but the Junkion leader was just as much in the dark about the whole affair as he was. The Big Broadcast of 2006

When an Autobot shuttle was forced to land on The Junk Planet for repairs, Blurr caught the attention of Wreck-Gar. Wreck-Gar was impressed by Blurr's powerful engine...and decided he wanted it! He attacked the Autobots with a horde of Junkions, intent on hacking the still-sputtering engine from Blurr's body, and fought Springer in the process.
The misunderstanding came to an end when Kup, an old hand at negotiating with natives, located their missing shuttle and instead engaged the Junkions in a barter session, trading weapons and energon. Project Brain Drain
In one possible scenario, after having learned that the Decepticons were planning to use a Brain Drain device on a crowd concert goers that included his son, Sparkplug Witwicky attempted to contact the Autobots via radio. He came in communication with Wreck-Gar instead. Sparkplug told the Junkion that he needed to talk to Ultra Magnus asap, and so Wreck-Gar found his way to Sparkplug's house, and prompted the human to hop onto his motorcycle mode. The pair took off in direction of the Autobots’ city, Metroplex. As they were driving, however, they spotted an old abandoned building guarded by Decepticons. Sparkplug realized that the Brain Drain device might be held within.
If Sparkplug decided to keep on pushing Wreck-Gar to head for Metroplex, the strain caused the Junkion to break down. Stranded in the middle of nowhere, without any spare parts to repair Wreck-Gar, the pair were unable to reach the Autobots in time to warn them of the Decepticons’ plot.
If Sparkplug instructed Wreck-Gar to try and sneak into the lab, the Junkion circled around until they came upon the building's backdoor, seemingly unwatched. They made a dash for the opening, only to run into Soundwave exiting the building. Soundwave began firing upon the duo, forcing them to retreat. Unfortunately, as they tried to run, they found their escape route cut off by a whole detachment of Decepticons. The pair, now surrounded by Decepticons, were instructed to surrender.
If Wreck-Gar did surrender, he was immediately blown to smithereens by the lying Decepticons.
If instead, Sparkplug and Wreck-Gar made a mad dash to escape, the two of them managed to get past the Decepticons surrounding them, but were then chased down by Thrust and Laserbeak, who managed to send them skidding into a nearby lake. As the Decepticons moved in for the kill, Hot Rod, Kup and Jazz showed up, shifting the odds and rescuing Sparkplug and Wreck-Gar. With Thrust and Laserbeak retreating, the Autobots were brought up-to-date on the situation, and had to decide whether they would launch a counter-attack on the Decepticons’ lab, or if they would send Hot Rod for reinforcements while the rest of them headed for the rock concert.
If the Autobots decided to storm the laboratory, the group attacked with such ferocity and suddenness that they scared off most of the Decepticons guarding the place. Finding their only opposition left being a small group of Decepticons, Wreck-Gar and the others successfully beat them back, until Soundwave attempted to escape with the Brain Drain device in hand.
If Hot Rod attempted to stop Soundwave, Laserbeak managed to grab hold of the device and flew off to meet Galvatron. The Autobots being too low on power to pursue meant that the Decepticons would ultimately be victorious. If Jazz attempted to stop him however, he was successful in doing so and the Autobots successfully destroyed the Brain Drain device.
Alternatively, if Wreck-Gar, Sparkplug, Kup and Jazz headed towards the concert while Hot Rod headed back to Metroplex for reinforcements, the small group found themselves wondering how they could defend the huge sea of people by themselves upon their arrival. Hearing the Decepticons approaching, but uncertain from which direction they were coming from, the Autobots had to decide whether they would station themselves on the west side of the concert, or at its south.
If the Autobots decided to head for the west side of the concert, Wreck-Gar and the others positioned themselves just in time to see a whole squadron of Decepticons coming into view. Catching the Decepticons by surprise with a first volley, the Autobots managed to buy themselves a few minutes as the Decepticons regrouped before circling around for another pass. During the Decepticons’ second pass, Wreck-Gar was blown to pieces. With Sparkplug's help, he was able to reassemble himself. But then Wreck-Gar was hit by Decepticon fire once more, causing him to again fall to pieces.
If Sparkplug went off to alert an incoming convoy of Autobots, Wreck-Gar was left to reassemble himself. He presumably returned to full health as the Autobots soon succeeded in destroying the Brain Drain device and drove the Decepticons away.
If Sparkplug continued to fix Wreck-Gar instead, the Junkion assumed his motorcycle mode as soon as he was back in one piece. Using a nearby toppled speaker as a ramp, Wreck lept into Galvatron, smashing the Brain Drain device. Autobot reinforcements arrived just in time to congratulate Wreck-Gar as the Decepticons fled.
Alternatively, if the Autobots headed for the south side of the concert, they were unable to see the Decepticons coming from the other direction, and were destroyed in a surprise Decepticon attack. Project Brain Drain

When the Recyclons arrived on Junk, intending to convert the planet into energon for their overseers, the Harvest Lords of Sigrath, Wreck-Gar approached the leader, Salvage, and got two blaster bolts in the chest. After a near-instantaneous repair job, Wreck-Gar called out his fellows and swarmed the Recyclons, severely damaging them and forcing them to retreat to their ship, the Reclamation, and lift off.
Salvage returned to the planet's surface, leaving the Reclamation in orbit, in order to make peace with Wreck-Gar. But it was all a ruse; Salvage slapped a device on Wreck-Gar, a more powerful version of the Junkion leader's own decelerator laser, preventing him from attacking or calling his people while the orbiting Recyclons fired a beam from the Prime Processing Unit to convert the planet to energon from space. However, Wreck-Gar proved even stronger than Salvage expected, and he called the Junkions to fire a tractor beam at the Reclamation, sending it crashing into Junk seconds before the Prime Processing Unit activated, causing the ship to explode. Salvage himself lived only a few seconds more than his fellows, as the Junkions closed in on him immediately afterwards. Collect and Save

When Megatron was banished to Junkion early into the Great War, Wreck-Gar spotted his arrival and readied his fellow Junkions to cannibalize the newcomer for parts. Derelicts He watched from the sidelines as the other Junkions attacked... and were massacred by Megatron. Wreckage
The Transformers eventually came back to Junkion as their war intensified; during the subsequent "Battle of Junkion" the planet became a minor battleground in the Cybertronian war—and culminated in the planet's destruction, when the battle of intellects between Prowl and Shockwave ended with one side sabotaging the planet's gravimetric core to detonate. Wreck-Gar, Rum-Maj, and thousands of Junkion refugees and their Sharkticon slaves piled aboard a gigantic corkscrew-shaped vessel and abandoned the shattered remnants of their homeworld. They became nomadic traders, scavenging, bartering for, and exchanging esoteric technologies and trinkets as they wandered from planet to planet. A Lonely Pillar on the Plain During their interplanetary travels, he fell in love with Rum-Maj on the planet Thrull Time Will Rust and eventually took her on as his new consort, having been "wounded in the heart" by an earlier relationship. A Lonely Pillar on the Plain
Circa 2017, the Junkions stumbled across the planet Earth during their travels, a planet with abundant supplies of Ore-13 and the key, the Junkions believed, to restoring their ravaged homeworld to its former glory. To Walk Among the Chosen A Lonely Pillar on the Plain
Making planetfall in the Alps, To Walk Among the Chosen Wreck-Gar and Rum-Maj disembarked, meeting Optimus Prime and the other Autobots. The two Junkions laid out their sales pitch: they had come to Earth in the hopes of trading their many technological secrets for the mineral they sought. Initial diplomatic overtures went poorly; Rum-Maj remained skeptical about Prime's diplomatic status, and when a curious Wreck-Gar investigated an incoming G.I. Joe taskforce, he was knocked apart by a Sky Hawk—though the Junkion leader was unfazed, and his head continued negotiations as some other Junkions cobbled his body back together. On the behest of G.I. Joe, the Autobots withdrew to Autobot City, and some hours later the two Junkion leaders arrived aboard a shuttle for a tour of the base. Noting the critically wounded Sideswipe, Wreck-Gar offered the Transformers a positron core, one of the few objects capable of repairing the dying Autobot. A Lonely Pillar on the Plain
Back aboard their vessel, the two Junkions watched as Cosmos, Frenzy, and Rumble carried out what they thought was a covert infiltration of the Junkion mothership on Prime's orders... unaware that their stealth paint failed to conceal them from advanced Junkion sensors until they stumbled upon the ship's Sharkticon holding pen. Behind My Bleeding Back Wreck-Gar and Rum-Maj observed the creatures incapacitate the interlopers; while Wreck-Gar was still keen to make a deal with the Transformers, Rum-Maj asserted that they couldn't trust Optimus and hatched a plan of her own—if they couldn't bargain for the Ore-13, then they would simply take it by forcefully colonizing the planet.
At a diplomatic summit between Optimus, the Junkions, and several human leaders, Wreck-Gar joined his beloved in tossing Cosmos's battered but still-living body off of their shuttle as a warning before he reluctantly gave the order to unleash the Sharkticon school on the Autobots and humans alike. Dance Among the Shadows The battle soon began going south for the Junkions and so Wreck-Gar opted to slip away, taking the positron core with him. Before he could get far, however, he was intercepted by Arcee, who demanded that he take her to the positron core. Wreck-Gar babbled for a while before revealing that he was carrying it in his chest. Future Glories Lost
Determined to save Sideswipe, Arcee pummelled Wreck-Gar at length, but his ramshackle physiology meant that he was hard to put down. As the beatdown continued, the Sharkticons—swayed by Soundwave's rhetoric and having turned against their former masters—stormed the ship ahead of Prime and his Colonist Soldiers, and amidst the chaos a stray shot hit the precious core... causing it to detonate, blowing Wreck-Gar's body to bits in the process. A defeated Rum-Maj cradled Wreck-Gar's still-living head in her arms as she lamented her failure to rebuild their world. Rather than finish off his enemies, however, Prime managed to convince his troops to lay down arms, hoping to negotiate a lasting peace between the two cultures, and the two Junkion leaders gratefully accepted his terms of surrender.
On Marissa Faireborn's suggestion, the Junkions relocated to the abandoned EDC base in the Bikini Atoll, and under their direction the derelict facility would be torn down and rebuilt into a new city for Transformers and their ilk on Earth, a "Little Cybertron." Feel Safe Without Regrets He and Rum-Maj helped supervise the construction of their new home, affectionately bickering with each other all the while, though some of Wreck-Gar's... unorthodox architectural designs proved unstable at best. The Next Day, and the Next Still a disembodied head, Wreck-Gar and some other Junkions tried to repair the positron core as a show of goodwill, but were unable to restore the artifact. Instead, the Junkion leader offered up a mnemopathis projector so that the Autobots could humanely terminate Sideswipe's failing life support systems. The Junkion supervised the initial operation; after Sideswipe's passing, he mourned his inability to fix the device that would have allowed him to save the red Autobot's life. The Life of Sideswipe
Months later, Rum-Maj and Wreck-Gar—still a head—attended the opening of a new Ore-13 mine in Kentucky. Despite Rum-Maj's gloomy proclamations, Wreck-Gar tried to keep her spirits up. Surfeit of Primes After retiring to Little Cybertron some time later, Wreck-Gar's manservant Detritus informed his boss that Jazz had recently been arrested by G.I. Joe in order to facilitate Rom's voyage to Cybertron, and later related this news to Slide and the other colonists. Unstopped and Unstoppable
This tidbit of news was soon overshadowed when the threat of Unicron made itself manifest; as the monster planet tore through the Cybertronian colony worlds until only Earth remained, Slide and the other colonists set out on a mission of vengeance, intent on rectifying Prime's perceived failures through force, and when word came of their attack on Trypticon at Mount Rushmore, Wreck-Gar glumly mused that he had encouraged the young Autobots. Determined to not let their new home fall to violence, the pair set out aboard a shoal of Sharkticons, but arrived too late to stop the violence that resulted in the deaths of Gimlet and Joe soldier Mainframe—but just in time to watch as Unicron materialized over the planet. Time Will Rust As a grieving Soundwave cradled Mainframe's dead body, the two were momentarily overwhelmed by the outlier's telepathic abilities amplifying his emotions, though Wreck-Gar cheerfully pointed out that the situation would translate to good PR regarding human-Cybertronian relations. A Sunrise Dark
During the final battle against Unicron and his Maximals, Wreck-Gar and Rum-Maj flew their fleet of Sharkticons to Washington, D.C., where they arrived just in time to rescue the President of the United States and her retinue from the Maximals who had survived the crash of Bludgeon's Worldsweeper. Ceremony
After the battle had been won, Wreck-Gar and Rum-Maj reconvened in Little Cybertron to help bury the dead and attend Optimus Prime's funeral. There, Rum-Maj mused that the cost of victory had been so high that it hardly felt like a victory; Wreck-Gar, on the other hand, opined that since life kept going, with or with out you, nothing could truly be called a victory, and you simply had to do your best for as long as you lived. Transformers Legends
When Megatron became stranded on the planet Junk, he was forced to fight off Wreck-Gar and the hordes of cannibalistic Junkions until he could be rescued by Skywarp. Wreckage
Wreck-Gar and Wheelie joined up with the Autobots on Junkion. The pair subsequently accompanied Ultra Magnus back to Earth to assist in rebuilding, only for Wreck-Gar to wander off on a holy pilgrimage to a TV station, and fall victim to a surprise attack from the Insecticons. Junkion Reunion
Wreck-Gar aided Grimlock in rescuing Rodimus and Kup when the pair were put on trial by the Quintessons. Mockery of Justice
Wreck-Gar, alongside Ultra Magnus, intercepted Galvatron and his troops when the Decepticons attacked the facility which contained the Dweller and the Trans-Organics. When the creatures were unleashed, Wreck-Gar pushed Ultra Magnus to safety, and attempted to face the Trans-Organic horde by himself. Both the Autobots and the Decepticons were eventually able to escape, and rocketed back to their respective bases. Dweller in the Depths
Transformers Roleplaying Game
Wreck-Gar was originally a mercenary warlord, but eventually befriended the Autobots and was allowed to become an honorary member of their faction. Toys
The Transformers
- Wreck-Gar (Autobot Hero, 1986)
- Takara ID number: C-81
- Accessories: decelerator laser, armor axe, tire/shield
- One of two "Heroes" toys released in the third year of the original Hasbro Transformers toyline, Wreck-Gar transforms into a Cybertronic "junk" motorcycle. His accessories all use 5 mm posts, meaning they are compatible with all of the Wreck-Gar toys that (eventually) followed. His rifle and axe can be "stored" in vehicle mode by plugging them into his fists outside his front wheel, but it's a bit awkward.
- This toy is noteworthy for being one of the earliest uses of ball-and-socket joints in the entire franchise.
- Unfortunately, he completely lacks his cartoon model's sweet facial "hair". Also unfortunately, a robot-mode Wreck-Gar toy cannot properly ride a motorcycle-mode Wreck-Gar, unlike the action depicted in the movie. Sigh.
Transformers (2010)
- Wreck-Gar (Deluxe Class, 2011)
- Accessories: 4-bladed battle axe/tailpipe
- Known designers: Bill Rawley and Andrew Franks (Hasbro), Hironori Kobayashi (TakaraTomy), Mark Maher (deco artist)
- Part of the sixth wave of the 2010 Transformers toyline, Wreck-Gar transforms into a Road Warrior-esque junker off-road motorcycle. His exhaust pipe and rear hubcap detach (via a clip joint) and unfold to become his axe weapon. As part of the Reveal the Shield subline, Wreck-Gar features a rubsign on his windscreen/right leg. The front tire is mounted on a ball joint, allowing it to pivot downward and serve as a shield in robot mode. It can kinda-sorta peg onto his elbow in this position, but doing so limits articulation. The wheel can also be popped out of the ball-joint socket, and held in Wreck-Gar's hand as a shield/axe/melee thingy.
- One Wreck-Gar can totally ride another (or another toy based on the same sculpt) in the style seen in the movie! Double pegs under his pelvis correspond to sockets in his vehicle mode seat. Furthermore, the figure has tabs and sockets on his robot mode ankles that are supposed to connect to corresponding sockets and tabs of his bike mode to secure his feet, but this is done with very limited success as a result of some part interference. Additionally, the left side of his chest/shoulder assembly refuses to peg in properly in robot mode, a very common problem across all later versions of this mold.
- Wreck-Gar suffers from a very intricate transformation that often requires just the right amount of force being applied for it to work; however, applying too much force, or not paying attention to certain parts, can result in outright breakage. His translucent helmet-horns are very fragile and might even break simply from accidentally turning the head while in vehicle mode, and his sculpted-open hands are prone to stress marks from simply holding the axe. Don't even think about turning the axe inside his hand! The worst offender, though, are the hinges that connect the rubber handles to the gas tank: those can break after just a few transformations, regardless of whether one uses the automorph by pulling up on the gas tank and thereby dislodging the handles and moving them to the side as intended, or tries to unhinge the handlebars manually beforehand. Sadly, cutting the nubs off has been the only consistent fix to prevent breakage. Hasbro addressed this problem by cutting the nubs off at the factory level for subsequent redecos and retools of the sculpt, starting with Generations Junkheap.
- This mold was redecoed into Shattered Glass Wreck-Gar. It was also retooled into United Scrapheap (later also released under the Generations branding) and Generations Junkheap, each sporting a different head sculpt. Those two were redecoed into Shattered Glass Scrap Iron and Shattered Glass Junkheap, respectively. This mold also served as the basis of the non-toy Beast Wars: Uprising incarnation of Crazybolt.
- Wreck-Gar's instructions depict Junkheap's head sculpt, thus hinting at the retool before it was announced as a separate release.

United
- Wreck-Gar (Deluxe Class, 2011)
- ID number: UN-18
- Release date: February 26, 2011
- Accessories: battle axe/tailpipe
- Part of the third wave of TakaraTomy's United toyline, this version of Wreck-Gar is an extensively painted redeco of the Hasbro 2010 release in (surprise!) a much brighter, more cartoon-inspired deco. Like most toys in the line, he makes use of metallic paint, mainly a bright reflective red on his chest and legs.
- Initial stock photos used to illustrate preorders depicted a sample in the Hasbro version's deco (but different from the existing Hasbro stock photos) before being replaced by new stock photos depicting the finalized deco.

Combiner Wars
- Wreck-Gar (Legends Class, 2016)
- The only new item in the sixth and final wave of Generations Combiner Wars Legends-class toys, Wreck-Gar is a retooling of Groove, sporting a brand new noggin. He transforms into a motorcycle of made-up model.
- He can also convert into chest armor for Defensor and other iterations of the Combiner Wars Hot Spot mold. Early packaging sample photography showed a sticker boasting it being part of the Sky Reign team, but the final product omits this information as Wreck-Gar has no official way to actually combine with Sky Reign.
- The original version of this mold was also used to make Rust Dust and Adventure Override. It also served as the basis of the non-toy Beast Wars: Uprising character Vampire and the Spatiotemporal Challengers incarnation of Scooter.
Platinum Edition
- Planet of Junk Clash (Platinum Edition Deluxe 3-pack, 2016)
- Accessories: Battle axe/tailpipe
- Part of Hasbro's Platinum Edition offerings for 2016 intended to commemorate the 30th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie, this Wreck-Gar is a redeco of the Reveal the Shield figure above. While the overall deco is very similar to the first version, every plastic color has changed and darkened slightly, plus his flame deco is now bright yellow. The clear plastic was replaced with clear orange plastic. Unlike previous releases of the sculpt, Wreck-Gar has no insignia applied on his windshield/right leg.
- Wreck-Gar was only available as a part of the "Planet of Junk Clash" set with Autobot Hot Rod and Junkion Scrapheap. In the United States, this set was officially a Target exclusive, though only ever found at a single Target store, otherwise only available via the company's website. However, it was also stocked by several US-based online retailers BigBadToyStore and TFSource, who supposedly obtained it as an import from Asia. It was available in several of Hasbro's Asian markets (namely Singapore and the Philippines; it's currently unknown whether it was exclusive to any particular stores there or not). In Canada, it was sold at Toys"R"Us stores, whereas in Chile, it was sold at Ripley stores. In the United Kingdom, it was also sold at Toys"R"Us stores, whereas in Spain, it was available via the Spanish subsidiary of Amazon, as well as the department store chain El Corte Inglés. It's currently unknown if it was also available in stores, or limited to online purchases. In Italy, it was sold at Toys Center stores, making it the first Platinum set ever released in that country.
- The illustration on the front of the box erroneously depicts Wreck-Gar in his 2010 deco. Whoops!

Power of the Primes
- Wreck-Gar (Deluxe Class, 2018)
- TakaraTomy ID number: PP-41
- TakaraTomy release date: December 29, 2018
- Accessories: axe/tailpipe, Prime Armor/combiner hand, Prime Master gap filler/gun
- Power of the Primes Wreck-Gar is a new-head retooling of Unite Warriors Groove, transforming into a motorcycle of made-up model. Wreck-Gar can also change into a limb for any Combiner Wars-style Combiner.
- Like all Power of the Primes Deluxe Class figures, he comes with Prime Armor (redecoed from the Dinobots and the Terrorcons) with a spot for Prime Masters (and by extension, Titan Masters, Enigmas, or Matrix cores) and can form a Combiner hand. He includes a piece that can fill the gap in the armor or be held as a gun. Unlike most Deluxes in the subline, there is no way to attach the Prime Armor to his chest without modifications. He also includes a redeco of the axe weapon that came with the Reveal the Shield figure above, which is really awkward for him to hold the only way he can, at the very bottom of the long shaft. However, the "C joint" clip can attach to his left arm's kickstand, turning it into an arm-mounted blade.
- The side of Wreck-Gar's packaging shows a cropped view of the unnamed Inferno Combiner,[1] though as it turns out, Wreck-Gar himself is not even part of the art.[2]
- Wreck-Gar was exclusive to Walgreens in the United States and sold at general retail in Japan. Wreck-Gar was also available at EB Games in Canada.
Studio Series
- Wreck-Gar (Voyager Class, 2021)
- Movie: The Transformers: The Movie
- Hasbro ID number: 86-09
- TakaraTomy ID number: SS-69
- TakaraTomy release date: November 27, 2021
- Accessories: front wheel shield (wide), back wheel shield (thin), four-bladed axe, "Junkion Dance Party" backdrop
- Known designers: Evan Brooks (Hasbro), Takashi Kunihiro (TakaraTomy)[3], Mario Carreiro, Christina Murphy and Amy Bence (packaging),[4] Marcelo Matere (packaging artist)
- Released to commemorate the 35th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie, Studio Series Wreck-Gar is a Voyager Class-sized mold accurate to his appearance in the Generation 1 cartoon, right down to his laser nipples. Said nipples are actually mounted on ball joints, allowing them to point in different directions.
- He comes with his two spiky shields, which can attach to ports on his forearms or the sides of his knees in robot mode or form his wheels when in motorcycle mode. Wreck-Gar also comes with his four-bladed axe, which can either be stored on his back or held in his hand. Much like the 2010 Reveal the Shield release, one figure of Wreck-Gar can ride another in their alternate mode, although the riding figure is visibly larger than the scale of the motorcycle-mode figure, which is more suited towards Deluxe-sized figures such as Studio Series Hot Rod.
- Like the other Studio Series toys, the interior of the package forms a display background for the toy. In this case, it's the dance party on Junkion.
Merchandise
MyClone

- Wreck-Gar (MyClone, 2003)
- ID number: MTF009
- Accessories: stand
- Known designers: Kazutami Yasuhiko (TakaraTomy)
- A "super deformed" mini-figure of Wreck-Gar was created as part of the second wave of MyClone Transformers in Japan. These toys could be disassembled and their parts mixed-and-matched thanks to a generic base body. In Wreck-Gar's case, this is especially appropriate.
Tiny Titans
- Wreck-Gar (Tiny Titan, 2015)
- Series: 3
- Number: 3/12
- Part of the third assortment of Tiny Titans blindpacks, this version of wreck-Gar is a very small, soft-plastic figure of him in robot mode. Unusually, the spikes on his elbows and knees are on the insides of his limbs, rather than on the outside as normally depicted (such as on the included collector card).
- He includes a collectible card that renders him in the 2015 Robots in Disguise styling. The card includes a scan-badge for the Robots in Disguise mobile game, which unlocks a random amount of Energon "currency" and a randomized bonus power-up item.
Eaglemoss
- Transformers Gen-1 Chess Set (
2021)
- In the planned Transformers Chess Set by Eaglemoss, a relatively large and very well detailed statue of Wreck-Gar was slated to be a replacement Knight piece on the Autobot side.
- A Kickstarter campaign to raise the necessary funds for this project was launched, but failed to meet its goal by September 24, 2021 and the whole thing was canceled.
ReAction
- Wreck-Gar (2023)
- Accessories: Axe, gun
- Released in the sixth wave of Super7's line of multi-property 3.75-inch "retro" action figures, ReAction Wreck-Gar is a non-converting figure based on his appearance in the original cartoon. He has five points of articulation (swivel neck, shoulders, hips) and holes in his feet for use with some variety of stand. His dangling goatee is made of softer plastic to allow him more head movement, but maybe don't test those limits too much, hm?
- Curiously, despite the figure being cartoon-based, his axe and gun accessories are both based on the ones that came with the original toy (Wreck-Gar didn't even have a gun in the cartoon). He's also lacking the large center-spikes on his non-removable wheel-shields.
- As with all releases in the ReAction toyline, Wreck-Gar comes packaged on a small cardback that emulates the nostalgic packaging style of Kenner's Star Wars action figures from the late 1970s to early '80s.
ULTIMATES!
- Wreck-Gar (ULTIMATES!, 2023)
- Accessories: Alternate toy-based head, closed fists (L & R); "tight" gripping hands (L & R); wider gripping hands (L & R), right open palm hand, left peace sign hand, toy-based axe, cartoon-based axe, 2 energon goodies, 2 tire shields, portable TV, wax bottle, wiping cloth
- Released in the third wave of Super7's ULTIMATES!, this version of Wreck-Gar is a 7-inch-tall non-transforming action figure based on his animation model. He features extensive articulation, including multi-directional joints at the neck, shoulders, wrists, hips, and ankles; plus swivel biceps, elbows, knees, and a bit of ab crunch. His hands pop out at the wrists so they can be replaced with his additional spare hands in different poses, some designed to hold particular accessories better than others... and all of them failing to do so, thanks to the hands being made of pretty rigid plastic, making it basically impossible to wedge any of his weapons in there.
- Aside from his animation-accurate axe and tire-shields, he also has toy-accurate renditions of his axe and rifle, both of which have handles that are way too big to fit in any of his "gripping" hands. (The axe is actually compatible with 5 mm post-holes, but for no damn good reason, the gun's handle isn't, being a bit too large.) He also has an alternate head based on the original toy, if you're into that.
- He also includes a pair of energon goodies, a wax bottle and a piece of real cloth of the kind the Junkions used to fix Ultra Magnus in the animated movie, and, in a particularly detailed touch, a hand-held TV with a sticker showing one of the screenshots Wreck-Gar had demonstrated in the "We talk TV!" sequence. The TV and wax bottle can be wedged into his right "open" hand decently enough.
- Care needs to be taken when handling Wreck-Gar, as all of his spikes are rigid plastic and not a dang one of them is rounded/flattened off to boot, making him very, very pointy for potential painful pokes. He's not needle-point sharp, but still, he can definitely leave an impression.
- Preorders for Wreck-Gar (and the rest of Wave 3) opened on December 1 2021, with the toys originally slated to ship in fall 2022, a vague release window Super7 missed by a significant amount: the wave finally shipped in November of 2023.
Notes
- Like the rest of the central The Transformers: The Movie cast, Wreck-Gar had a (ridiculously overdetailed) preliminary character model by Floro Dery that was revised by Japanese artists before final animation. And just like the rest of the central movie cast, that early model was used as a basis for his toy design, and for his Marvel Comics appearances.
- During Wreck-Gar's first appearance in The Transformers: The Movie, his speech pattern was a mashup of contemporary pop culture catchphrases, each line taking from a multitude of sources and scrambling them together to make a (somewhat) coherent new statement. ("Don't look behind Door Number Two, Monty! It's time to play 'End of the Line, My Valentine'! Geroni-doo-run-run-ronimooooo!") In Wreck-Gar's subsequent appearances, however, writers seemed content to give him unaltered lines from television and movies. ("I'm a pepper! Wouldn't you like to be a pepper, too?")
- Of course, in Wreck-Gar's Marvel UK appearances, he repeats local British pop culturisms. ("And that's Blockbusters!" and "Jim'll fix it!", though that last one is now in poor taste.)
- In the Japanese dub, Wreck-Gar speaks in the Kyōwa-go dialect, an obsolete and obscure dialect often associated with those of mixed Chinese-Japanese heritage. It is considered difficult to understand.
- For nearly 20 years, Wreck-Gar was the only Junkion toy, until the creation of the e-HOBBY exclusive Detritus.
- A motorcycle based on Wreck-Gar makes a brief easter egg appearance in the Transformers Animated episode "Garbage In, Garbage Out". Wreck-Gar's Animated counterpart throws it at Bumblebee in a fit of misguided helpfulness.
- Like all non-toy robot Kreons in the Kre-O manga, Wreck-Gar is made from existing Kre-O parts. He uses Bumblebee's helmet and a scythe-weapon from the G.I. Joe Kre-O sets.
