Summary:

“He did this to you, didn’t he?” Mike asked, sitting on the edge of Will’s bed with far more care than usual.
“Yes,” Will said. There was no point in denying it, not when it had all been forced out in the open.
“This wasn’t the first time, was it?” Mike asked, his face pinched like he already knew the answer.
“No, Mike. It wasn’t.”
Mike’s glassy eyes squeezed shut and Will watched tears slip down his cheeks. It hurt seeing Mike so upset. Will knew he probably should have been more worried about himself given everything he’d just been through, but Mike had always occupied a large part of Will’s brain at any given time so it really wasn’t that surprising.
Will let Mike cry for a few moments before he asked, “Can I have a hug?”
**Mike is there for Will just like he’s always been.

In my very post, I humbly present “The Tender Violet, An Anthology of Sapphic Love Stories”
This was a bind I made for an exchange, and collaborated with the incredibly Maddy (@madartmouse on Instagram) to bring this collection to life.
While Maddy made this beautiful illustration of the three protagonists of each of these stories, I set to work, looking for fics, seeking permissions from authors who didn’t have policies readily available, and deciding what visual approach I wanted to take for the typeset.
While doing some research into sapphic imagery, I decided I wanted violets to feature somehow, and found this wonderful verse which sent my brain into overdrive:
“The tender violet bent in smiles / To elves that sported nigh, / Tossing the drops of fragrant dew / To scent the evening sky. ~ Elizabeth Oakes Smith
Thus “The Tender Violet” was born.
I chose to treat the chapter headers like the opening of a fairytale, and have violets on each page serving as a vertical marker along the fore edge to indicate each story within.
Enjoy, and my eternal and humble gratitude to the incredible authors who gifted us with these wonderful stories. Some are sweet, some are spicy, all are phenomenal!
