FAQ

  • How long have you been drawing?
As long as I can remember!

  • What do you use to draw?
I use Manga Studio 5 EX for almost all drawing/painting and Photoshop CC for animation. Actual drawing implements are a Cintiq 21ux/22HD, but also pencil and paper on occasion.

  • Do you take requests?
I don’t typically do them as it tends to lead people to think I’m some kind of art machine, sozzles. If there’s a suggestion I find particularly appealing, though, I’ll sometimes make an exception.

  • I want to digital art! Can you recommend any programs/tablets?
Since you’re just starting out, I recommend trying out some free programs to get a feel for the medium. Sai seems to be the go-to free program, and FireAlpaca is another, but I don’t have experience with either one, sozzles. If you don’t mind actually paying for a program, Photoshop CC is available for $30/mo, and Clip Studio for a flat $50 but has a free trial option. I wouldn’t call either of these programs new-user friendly, but I work using both and they’re both pretty versatile programs (PS more than CS, but PS is geared more toward image manipulation while CS was created for drawing/painting).

If money’s tight but you already have a phone/tablet with a stylus, you can also play around with free drawing apps (I sort of like Autodesk Sketchbook).

I’ve only ever used Wacom products, so I can only speak on those, but Intuos Pen & Touch and Intuos Manga (which have largely the same specs except in their physical dimensions) are good starters and both are priced at about $100. There are cheaper tablets available, but I’ve been using Wacom products for over a decade and haven’t had any issues, so I recommend purchasing from them if your budget allows.

  • How can I get better at drawing?
Draw, draw, draw. You just have to draw and keep drawing and let yourself make things you don’t like and then keep drawing after that. There’s no getting around it, sorry.
  • Where can I buy those sparkly stickers??
