This day was the Blessed Virgin Mary born of the lineage of David.

Elísabeth Zacharíæ magnum virum génuit. Joánnem Baptístam, præcursórem Dómini.

Elizabeth, the wife of Zacharias, was the mother of a mighty man. Even of John the Baptist, the Fore-runner of the Lord.

O blessed day which raised up and so highly exalted this most humble handmaiden of the Lord that she might become the most glorious Queen of Heaven and the mistress of the world. Indeed she could not have risen to more sublime heights since she had been elevated to the very Throne of the heavenly kingdom, and thus was established in glory next after Christ. O blessed and truly honourable is this day which constituted and confirmed for us a Queen and Mother who is at once powerful and merciful in the kingdom of God, that we might have her, who ever remaineth the Mother of the Judge, as a Mother of mercy protecting us and interceding for us with Christ, unceasingly watching over the work of our salvation.

Delectáre in Dómino: et dabit tibi petitiónes cordis tui.

Delight in the Lord, and He will give thee the requests of thy heart.

O St. Joseph whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the Throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires.  O St. Joseph do assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord; so that having engaged here below your Heavenly power I may offer my Thanksgiving and Homage to the Most Loving of Fathers.  O St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms.  I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart.  Press him to my name and kiss His fine Head for me, and ask Him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath.  St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls, pray for us.  Amen.

Tu Deus trinus paritérque et unus,
Qui pater cunctis opiféxque rerum,

God, who art one and three-fold in being,
Father and Maker of all of the living,
Make us to imitate Joseph our father,
