When I was in the planning and gathering stage of my zodiac series I stumbled upon this amazing mask and knew I had to use it in one of the lookbooks. And since Gemini is such a multi-faceted sign it seemed the perfect fit. The rest of the lookbook branched out from there, with the sculpted dress reflecting that it’s an air sign and the duo colour palette representing The Twins. I originally created the looks in black and white, but I like to co-ordinate the lookbook with its corresponding CAS background palette. The switch to pink and blue inadvertently made for the perfect colour scheme for Pride month 🏳️‍⚧️ CC links under the cut.

Those of you who have been around these parts for any length of time know my affinity for 1960s fashion, and ever since I made over the Scooby Doo gang in medieval revival for Halloween last year I’ve been hung up on tackling a recolouring project in that style. And thus the MERRY MODIEVAL collection was born! The collection consists of three dresses, a hat, a necklace and a belt, all designed with that special retro medieval flair in mind. Please note all items are recolours, so MESHES ARE REQUIRED. Item info and links to each mesh under the cut.

Similarly to the way I pulled inspiration for the Aries lookbook, I used Taurus’ ruling planet of Venus as a jumping off point when brainstorming outfit ideas. ‘The Birth of Venus’ was painted by Botticelli in the late 1400s, so I went in the direction of the Renaissance by way of the 1920s. The dress is pure 15th century, while the bedazzled cape and headband bring the jazz age glamour. CC links under the cut.

Because masquerade was such a major cultural phenomenon in the 18th century I figured masks deserved their own collection. Masquerades were dazzling spectacles attended by huge crowds decked out in elaborate costumes. Attendees often wore masks and the anonymity afforded by them allowed for the transgression of social, class, sexual and racial boundaries. Please note all masks except for 9 and 12 can be worn by all genders. CC links under the cut.

My obsession with costuming and fashion history started in childhood - I loved watching old school musicals with extravagant costumes and I would spend hours drawing costume designs of my own. One of my biggest inspirations, even to this day, is the gorgeous artwork of Erté. He was credited as the “father of Art Deco” and his illustrations are the pinnacle of vintage glamour. And thus, the inspiration behind The Zodiac Series.

I wanted to put together a series of lookbooks that harken back to Erté’s glitzy, over-the-top designs. I’ve loosely pulled inspiration from 1920s and 1930s fashions, albeit a little bit more risque than what would have been socially acceptable at the time. Let’s call it Vintage Fantasy. We start with the first sign in the zodiac - Aries.

As Mars is the ruling planet of Aries, I wanted to pay homage to the Roman god of the same name by incorporating classical drapery and tough weaponry, wrapped in a package of glamorous, feminine finery. CC links under the cut.
