CQL/Untamed in legal trouble

Looks like CQL/The Untamed is in some legal trouble regarding licensing with JJWXC ( Publisher of Mo Dao Zu Shi who holds the original rights along with the author)

JJWXC released a statement stating that CQL’s license has expired since May 2021. It means that any games, merchandise or collaboration since then are unauthorised.

“All related promotions and sales are illegal. The author and JJWXC preserve the right to pursue the legal responsibilities. They recommended readers should stay vigilant”

It seems that until a few months ago CQL was flying under the radar for releasing merch and doing collaboration with games but JJWXC got to know about it recently and they would likely pursue a legal notice.

This also means that the CQL game is likely cancelled, which is why there was no news about it since a long time. It was also rumoured to be in trouble with the Donghua for “stealing designs” but I am unsure about this.

*Note : This is about the CQL franchise specifically, NOT Mo Dao Zu Shi which includes the Donghua, Manhua, Audio Drama and the Novel. The latter is completely fine and has no such issues.

Hate to say it but that’s what they get for trying to cheat the creator by “flying under the radar.” I hope the creator gets all the money they deserve from this.
