To all my byler doubters: Why does Mike get special scenes when it comes to Will but Lucas and Dustin don’t? I understand why Jonathan and Joyce got to go in the shed to help Will—but why Mike? Am I to believe that Dustin and Lucas were just fine sitting 10 ft away in the house when they could’ve helped out in the shed? Why is Mike held to a different standard? It’s not just because Will likes Mike no this is Mike’s doing. Mike put himself next to Will all of season 2. Sleeping next to his bed and in hospitals. Going out of his way to check up on him multiple times. It was Mike who went after Will in the pouring rain in s3. When something bad happens to a certain character the audience will always expect another certain character to be there for them. Ex: If something bad happens to Max you expect Lucas to be right there. If something bad happens to Hopper you expect Joyce and El to be there. With Will you expect Joyce and Jonathan AND Mike—but why? Why do you expect Mike and not Dustin and Lucas? They’re all friends, right?
THIS!!! All of this is done because you’re supposed to notice the difference between Mike and Will’s relationship and their relationships with Dustin and Lucas. Everything Mike does for Will, because of Will, is because he’s purposefully being held at a different standard then Will’s other friends. I’m not saying Dustin and Lucas don’t care about Will, they certainly do. But with Mike, it’s different. It’s always been different. And that’s what we’re supposed to realize.
I’ve seen a lot of people talking about how they could see Will finding another guy (temporally) in s5 to essentially show that’s he’s trying to get over Mike and I’m just like…what?! Huh
exactly! Will kept holding onto Mike even when it seemed hopeless, and now that Byler is actually going to be endgame in S5, people want to mess with Will’s arc. instead, I’d love to see something where some guy tries to hit on Will, but Will is clearly not interested—meanwhile, Mike completely misreads the situation, gets possessive, and goes into full protective mode.
