I love all books but sometimes you read a book and you’re like so were all 21 thousand of you blindfolded and at gun point when you rated it 5 stars

overheard these two guys talking and they're like. very obviously cowboys and one of them goes "man when I was young I used to think everyone had horses I didn't even know there were ppl w/o horses" and the other one goes "shows how horseified we are"

Sounds like a degree from Columbia, something students pay to attain, is not the long-term guarantee it was once thought to be. Sounds like a good reason to transfer out, not apply there, and never plan to attend. If they can just take your degree away after you've already earned it, what good is it?

And to be clear: this isn't a thing. Serial killers don't get their degrees revoked. War criminals don't get their degrees revoked. This is straight up fascist nonsense that makes a degree from this institution categorically a bad investment.

Susanna Clarke and CS Lewis: Worlds, dreams, and worlds that feel like dreams.

The Silver ChairΒ | PiranesiΒ | The Magician’s NephewΒ | The Lion, the Witch and the WardrobeΒ | The Lion, the Witch and the WardrobeΒ | PiranesiΒ | The Magician’s Nephew

I could literally talk for hours about how Piranesi’s internal voice changesβ€” so subtly!!β€” over the course of the novel. at the beginning, we are reading what we come to know as classic Piranesi voice: lots of capitalization, very few contractions, many exclamation marks, virtually no slang or colloquialisms. This is juxtaposed starkly against the Other’s more casual, modern way of talking. So Piranesi would say something like: β€œIt is a beautiful Day!” whereas the Other would say something like: β€œIt’s pretty nice out.” But!! As the story progresses, Piranesi’s voice changes too. He doesn’t lose the capitals until he’s left the House entirely, but after he meets 16 and starts reading Matthew Rose Sorensen’s old journal entries, he starts using contractions. Now he might say something like: β€œIt’s a beautiful Day!” instead of β€œIt is a beautiful Day!” This change is so subtle barely anyone picks up on it, but it is a HUGE insight into Piranesi’s psychology. Even if he doesn’t remember being Matthew, his exposure to 16 and his past self are transforming him on a subconscious level. I’m going crazy I’m chewing the plaster Susanna Clarke you’ve done it again

I think tumblr should preserve the following/mutuals badge on anons. It'd make the website worse but in a really good way. it should be applied retroactively too

One of my favorite parts of life is adopting new personality traits. Last month I decided to become a person who reads in the morning and goes to the library. This month I'm becoming a person who eats oatmeal and loves linen clothes. If you see something in other people that you like, you can just try it on.

coworker asked me today if you can just rent books and i got the glorious experience of saying YES, at the library, for freeee
