a short hurt/comfort langdonmel drabble for everyone beneath the cut. don't think i've got them nailed well enough for ao3 yet so pls enjoy it here instead!

ok now that I have time to feel all the 14 episodes, robby was so dead wrong for bringing mckay to meet david. it is not her responsibility and in fact it was his responsibility to make sure david gets the help he needs. people are always so sympathetic towards white boys as if their actions don't have serious consequences. Mckay was right about caring for all those girls and even if David didn't do anything now, he would have sooner or later because he is refusing care and a way to open up. police should have not dragged him so I get his agitation

but but robby forces his mom to sign a petition that forcefully institutionalise david and somehow that's not ruining his life. Anyway mckay did nothing wrong and I hope everybody knows it.

Chances in season 2 we get a Langdon and Robby scene where they apologize to each other or Langdon apologizes to Robby?

As most of you probably know by now, Iโ€™m a huge fan of the dynamic between Robby and Langdon. Or, letโ€™s be real, between Langdon and Robby, because if you ask Robby, Frank isnโ€™t his best friend, heโ€™s his โ€œbest resident.โ€ Or so he says.

I do believe that the slow process of rebuilding trust and rapport between them is going to be a major plotline in s2. Frankโ€™s got a lot to prove - maybe to Robby, maybe to himself - and Robbyโ€™s had plenty of time to sit with everything that happened and consider how he mightโ€™ve handled things differently. There were things left unsaid that needed to be voiced, and things said that probably shouldnโ€™t have been. Now, with some distance and reflection, theyโ€™re both going to have to reckon with where they standโ€”and what comes next.

So confused but why are people theorizing that Langdon appearing in season 2 will be during his first shift back from rehab? The showrunners said season 2 is 10 months after the events of season 1. Langdon is most likely gonna decide to go to rehab at the end of 1x15.

Guys heโ€™s not gonna be in rehab for the entire 10 months

Iโ€™ve got to admit, I really like this headcanon, but youโ€™re absolutely right: most rehab programs typically run anywhere from 30 to 90 days. I also somehow missed the confirmation about the 10-month time skip, so that changes things a bit. That said, I think thereโ€™s still a good chance that Robby wonโ€™t let him jump straight back into work. He might be placed on a mandatory leave of absence, have to return on reduced shifts, or, if weโ€™re indulging in some wishful thinking, he might start therapy. And if thatโ€™s the case, itโ€™s possible his therapist would strongly encourage, if not outright insist, that he take additional time off.

Naturally, heโ€™d resist at first. The ED is all heโ€™s known for so long - itโ€™s not just his job, itโ€™s his identity, his coping mechanism, his adrenaline fix. The idea of stepping away would feel like losing the little control he's had after his entire world had fractured.

But over time, those therapy sessions would likely focus on how his work environment has contributed to his addiction and how finding balance between that and his personal life would not only help him stay sober but also improve all areas of his life, starting with his home life, specifically his relationship with Abby.

โ€ฆAnd there I go again, deep-diving into headcanon territory.

while Iโ€™m here:

  • aspartame does not give you cancer
  • gluten is not bad for you if youโ€™re not allergic/donโ€™t have celiac disease
  • superfoods arenโ€™t real, theyโ€™re just healthy things with maybe some nicer levels of certain vitamins
  • vaccines do not cause autism or really anything else and the chemicals present in them that typically scare you are in such minute amounts that they do precisely fuck-all in your body (weโ€™re talking scales of one part per million)
  • you cannot do a cleanse or diet to โ€œrid your body of toxins,โ€ your kidneys and liver have that covered
  • GMO foods will not kill you; most genetic crop modification just makes our crops hardier and produce more food (and genetic modification doesnโ€™t inject more chemicals into your food, itโ€™s just minor altering of DNA that is made of the exact same stuff your DNA is made from)
  • if you feed your cat a vegan diet I will personally come to your home with the skull of a long-dead predator, point out the shape of its jaw and teeth as indicators of predatory feeding habits, and then beat you with it

I think 100% of the dynamic with Walsh and Abbot is that theyโ€™re both vets but theyโ€™re different branches. Heโ€™s like an army medic and sheโ€™s like a navy surgeon.

They have built-in respect but also pre-existing beef and completely different approaches to medicine.

"if you like langdon but dislike santos youre a hipocrite" okay but you guys do know that there is an actual difference in their approach to patient care, and that it has been addressed multiple times in the series. you know this right.

not just langdon, but also garcia and walsh can all fall into the competent asshole category- the difference is that santos is not fully competent yet. yes she has good instincts, but instincts are not all that a doctor can rely on and we were literally shown that a patient would have died as a result of her actions if his care had been delayed by just a few minutes. she refuses to consult her attending and senior residents because she assumes that she knows best, despite her lack of experience. the way langdon handled the situation was unacceptable, but that doesnt mean he was wrong to be angry with her. garcia also sees herself in santos, but still reminds her that there is a difference between confidence and arrogance, and that she needs to learn humility while working in an environment with such high risk, and which requires so much trust between coworkers.

she continually makes fun of her fellow junior residents despite repeated polite requests for her to stop, yet blows up at them the second they find out she did something wrong. she takes criticism poorly, shes competitive with people she should be working with, the way she speaks about patients and treatments is sometimes dehumanizing and disrespectful, and she holds a disregard for hospital policy without asking why that policy is in place. she has a strong sense of justice, but it is not always directed in a way that is helpful or appropriate.

again, santos has good insticts and a solid medical knowledge, but it is Literally her first day as a resident; no amount of training will ever be able to compensate for her lack of real world experience. she has the potential to become a really amazing doctor, but first she has to recognize that she is not one yet

See that picture above? Thatโ€™s a close up of my great grandmotherโ€™s immigration papers when she first came to the US back in the early 20th century. But my great grandmaโ€™s information isnโ€™t the important part here. The important part is that line in the middle there about how they arrived in the country.

And how โ€˜stowawayโ€™ is a legitimate, valid option to select.

So yeah. They absolutely just showed up, and that part of immigration history needs to be talked about a lot more.
