I love all the references, the artstyle, everything ! To me, Alphys and MTT's friendship is kinda bittersweet because it shows how people, even with radically different personalities, can get very close, be helpful to each other but also drift apart if priorities differ. Here it's because Mettaton was too busy with his stardom and generally cutting himself from everyone he was close to (like Blooky) before going big. And a bit less likely because Alphys was drowning in her failed experiments so she too was probably busy at the time.

That's why the endings where they don't get to reconcile because one of them just disappears are so sad. One misses the other a lot and this absence ultimately influences them for the worse. Either when Alphys enters a depression and at best hides in the lab, or when MTT just goes in "fabulous tyrant" mode with no one to slow him down in his neutral ending.

Edit : forgot the queen Alphys ending. In this ending she's still bitter, she who used to love humans so much, now fueled by vengeance, burdened by the weight of the crown and the loss of those she cared about so much.

And when they do get to reconcile, it's sweet.

Anyways, I love both of these goobers and could ramble about them separately or as besties for hours on end. This video perfectly summarizes why.
