The foreword of the first novel in my new canon universe, which I call “Reading Railway.” It tackles MY take on the three mystery engines from the time of the first few RWS books. (None of them look like this much.)

I can’t stress enough how much this book and myself owe MeanScarletDeceiver and their QLIR universe, thank you thank you!

Enjoy!

chapter 2! giles is already waffling on being an evil henchman, gulliver’s just eepy, and raymond rizzes up edward

chapter 3! gulliver’s valve gear causes a stir, raymond keeps charming old eddieboy, and we’re introduced to seedy mr. walberswick, who i love

Yyyyep.

Against all reason, I’m gonna start a book about the three nasty loaned engines from the ‘20s, or my own take of them.

Ground rules for myself:

—They would have had to come in 1923 after Gordon arrived for The Fat Director to afford him. I’m retconning “Edward’s Day Out” and saying the other engines in the shed in that story (in 1922) were actually some of the last Midland/Furness engines hanging on after the war, and they would leave shortly after.

—“98462 and 87546” were not their names/numbers.

—They all stayed on throughout the ‘20s and into the ‘30s at a minimum.

Let’s see how it goes!
