Germany’s Persistent German Airborne Surveillance System — better known as PEGASUS — was in Yellowknife, N.W.T., in early April to collect critical cold weather certification data.
Based on Bombardier’s Global 6000 platform, the PEGASUS program is spearheaded by HENSOLDT on behalf of the German Luftwaffe. Lufthansa Technik Defense and Bombardier Defense are responsible for modifications in Wichita, while additional integration and final outfitting will take place at Lufthansa Technik Defense in Germany.
Once operational, PEGASUS will become the Luftwaffe’s first aircraft capable of providing long-range surveillance and reconnaissance through advanced signal intelligence detection — a significant milestone in Germany’s airborne capabilities.
