We don’t use that structure when speaking it’s only used in very informal writing such as a text. Even in an email we would use the pronoun.

A: I would like to try on those pants.

A: You've never had raw fish? Come on, give it a try.

Different people will say it differently. You can say either version and it will be correct

A: It is quite a subtle difference:

"attempt" tends to be used for a specific, planned challenge such as attempting to climb a mountain. It can be replaced by "make an attempt at".

"Try" tends to imply that there is a greater chance of failure. "I will try to climb the mountain", implying that although I am trying, it's likely that I will fail.

-"It was her best attempt"
Usually, they are interchangeable. It depends on the scenario.
"They had to try" = "They had to attempt". They both work, but try sounds better here.

Try-out - a test to see how useful or effective something or someone is.

A: The meaning is effectively the same.

"Only to" is sometimes used to emphasize that something was unexpected or disappointing.

he tried to open.. but it DIDN'T WORK (implies that the SAFE was not working)
he tried to open but... it DIDN'T WORK OUT (means.. without going into detail.. he couldn't do it)
