An important part of classroom management are strategies to get your students’ attention when they are working in groups, tidying up, during free play or anytime your classroom is in action.   How you introduce a new attention grabber is also important to the successful use of that attention grabber. I always practise a new attention grabber by asking the students to pretend to have a conversation with a classmate they are sitting beside. I start by saying, “Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.” They love this and quickly and loudly start copying. Then, I yell out the attention grabber and they respond!
