I know I should have named this post something proper like "How to Repair a Crack in Plaster Walls", but 1) that wouldn't have been half as much fun and 2) that would imply that I have some sort of expert knowledge, and we all know that's not true! ;) So please forgive my lame-ness, continue reading my post. Don’t end up with your newly plastered walls and ceilings cracking or flaking by following these steps:  1. Let the plaster dry, this can take up to 4 weeks, but can be quicker using a heater or opening the windows.  2. Mix your mist coat paint, also known as a whitewash coat.  Without the mist coat it’s likely your paint won’t adhere to your new plaster and as a result it will crack, flake or even peel off in sheets in some cases.  3. To create your mist coat, the general rule of thumb is 50/50 mix of emulsion paint to water. I used closer to 60/40.  It needs to be really well mixed before applying, and a kitchen whisk is great for this! Once cured foam cut back just below plaster and filled with #toupret skim flex, taped with mesh tape and skim filled.
