🪵 Paint washing for a natural raw wood look🪵

1️⃣ Remove all of the old varnish ( see my previous stripping reel for more details on this 😁)

Make sure the wood nice and smooth before you start ❗️this is important to help the paint wash spread evenly❗️

2️⃣ Mix the paint wash 70% water 💦and 30% paint🎨

Use a light Taupe water based paint

3️⃣ Mist spray with water

This will open up the wood grain to take in the paint wash more evenly and stop areas drying out 🤌

4️⃣Apply the paint wash with a paint brush

Work on each area separately. So maybe paint wash the top then do the side then the drawer fronts and so on ….. ⬇️ Here’s why you should use all 3 of these tips when paint washing your furniture for a winning finish 🥇 ⬇️

1️⃣ Make sure your wood 🪵 is stripped back to bare wood and beautifully smooth ♥️ before applying any paint wash ✅

After removing all of the old varnish or stain, smooth off with a high grit sandpaper 120/240 grit or ultra fine sanding fleece. This will help for a more smoother to touch finish 🫳

These steps can make such a big difference on the over all finish ⬆️🙌🙌

2️⃣ paint wash in sections

Paint on the paint wash ( 70% water 💦 30% paint 🎨 ) and wipe straight back off . This technique lets you update your pieces while still showcasing the beautiful wood grain. After removing the finish and sanding the raw wood smooth, mix paint and water (I usually 50/50, but you can change it up depending on how much color you want). Wipe it back, top coat, and you’re done! You can add multiple layers of paint wash and can even layer different colors for extra depth (you can do one layer in a lighter wash then follow up with a darker wash to enhance the grain).
