If tumblr does go down for real this time, find me…nowhere. I’ll be free! But seriously, we all know I talk way too much to survive anywhere else that has polls. Like maybe I could start a blog anew elsewhere but half the fun was knowing what the community I’ve loved for 13 years thought. Even if I could rig something up on bluesky why do I care what they think, especially without queueing XD

Like I’ll still be making D&D and Pathfinder videos at @goblinuniversity and such. But if this place dies, so does my social media life. There’s no other social media I find fun.

like 200 people of years ago was considered understaffed. now there's about 20. like 2 of which and software engineers. Idk what's happening but it's going to be big. Death or resale or something. you can't keep the lights on with that few people. not tournament

WHICH WOULD YOU RATHER SMASH?

Mimic

Shield Guardian

On the left, the classic Mimic! Can turn into anything around 4-8 feet (1.2-2.4 m) around. Once you touch it you stick to it and it grabs you with its pseudopods and/or giant mouth. And THESE mimics are actually clever with getting you to touch them, and only get better with age. A bookshelf full of books with one that’s crooked, a door with a convenient peephole, dried up fountain with a coin in it. Though lets be real, it could just openly reveal itself to change into kinky equipment and most people following the blog would hop in without question. A sturdy stool with a hole in it can go for hundreds easy, and this has self binding restraints and tentacle whips.

On the right, the shield archon! Every Archon embodies a virtue, evolving as they grow stronger. This is Courage, defender of the weak and meek, magically forcing enemies to attack only them or teleporting to swap places and absorb hits. That lance and shield can turn back into hands at will, and they have amazing endurance and strength. Look, these ones are fairly straightforward for our purposes, the can fly and teleport but its abilities are mostly just making it hard to kill.

Real self important to think I give a shit if you’re following this blog, and I rarely even speak on the company here outside the occasional comment responses. So maybe stop projecting onto strangers. You aren’t the first to leave over liking Pathfinder stuff, and are I think the third who decided to tell me for some weird reason? I only bother responding to this one so that maybe people will be less likely to continue doing so.

Yes, every few years (like the 2021 controversy you’re referring to) they’ll have some shitty behavior come to light. Things like low/industry standard pay (which is legit still too low) or office hygiene. Then they’ll unionize, ot pressure against a founder will have her start training a replacement and set a date to leave, etc. They occasionally do some shitty things as a company, or we’ll find out an employee has been harrassing coworkers. Nobody’s denying that, companies are near always shitty, and you’ll swiftly find that nobody’s more critical of Pazio than many of Pathfinder’s fans. I’ll call them good for a medium sized company, but they’re still a company and still do shitty things. But if you’re going to bring it up, at least they usually address the issue and have less issues over a few years than D&D will have in a few months.

But it’s not shilling to act like damn near any company is better than the one where “sent the goddamn Pinkertons after people for thier own mix ups” was forgotten in weeks due to thier other constant controversies. I don’t do brand loyalty, like I’m just now getting back to this system after years gone, but the only controversy I know around them in the past like 3 years has been an executive decrying JD Vance saying by saying Fascists aren’t welcome here.

Anyway, I’d block but it seems you’ve done so for me. If anyone else wants to leave because I *checks notes* posted art from the book people voted on, please feel free to do so. If you tell me about it my only response will be to help you stay strong in your decision. idc if this blog has 4,000 people or 4, this is just a hobby.

phantomking-human asked:

It looks like they won’t win against the Rakshasa, but this Yeti is far more attractive then the one from D&D on its description alone. A strong, fluffy monster man that’s artsy and protects people? Hell yeah!

Oh this absolutely would’ve slaughtered halfway through the tournament, but like…SOMEONE had to face the winner of a previous tournament. Just the luck of the draw. I went with the results of the poll months ago and put similar things like dragons, elementals, hags, giants, etc in clusters. Everything else is totally at random!

These past few (and next few) are actually stragglers in the main tournament, a 5 pairs have to do an extra round thanks to how the layout turned out. We’ll dip back to the loser’s bracket in a few days, I should finally have a chance to finish making the next bracket soon. I’m still playing catchup thanks to some IRL stuff putting me waaaay behind on other things.

Anonymous asked:

I had no idea people were thirsty for hags. Like I'm not judging, hags are just something I didn't think people would thirst over. My eyes have been opened to a new reality and I don't know how to feel about it lol.

Anyway love the work you do, you do the monsterfuckers a great service.

Yeah, most of the pathfinder ones actually made the cut for the main tournament. People love a woman who’s a bit fucked up and her own person, and the hags are a LOT fucked up and totally unique XD

WHICH WOULD YOU RATHER SMASH?

Yeti

Raja Raksasha

On the left is the Yeti! a 9 ft (2.7 m) humanoid who is actually not the bloodthirsty solitary creature legend makes it out to be. They just live in the most remote areas of the world, guarding against the living nightmares, aliens, fiends, etc that slip between the cracks where worlds blur. The ones WE see are those that eventually succumb and flee or were just unusually violent people who got exiled. That’s why thier only supernatural abilities are just resistance to nightmares and being good at moving through/hiding in snow. But normal Yetis live somewhat peacefully in clans. Artsy types, like carving, actually pretty chill.

On the right, the Raja Rakshasa is an embodiment of disdain for religion. They view only themself as worthy of worship, even over their own immortals. They form close-knit families to subtly rule or destroy cities. They can turn off others’ divine abilities, shapeshift into other creatures around human size like them, and can assault your mind with images of evil decadence from its past lives. They also can read minds at will, and have learned magic to fly, turn invisible, create illusions, charm people, and summon a spectral hand!

WHICH WOULD YOU RATHER SMASH?

Demilich

Elananx

On the left is the demilich! When a lich loses its soul cage but doesn't die, its body eventually crumbles. It falls into involuntary hibernation unless disturbed while its mind wanders the planes, as its magic and items infuse with its form. When disturbed and it snaps back to life! they can make clouds of debris, cast any spells from any item they've absorbed over thier life (get creative), and have innate magic to fly, teleport, and manipulate or launch items. and that spectral hand they can summon can lift 19 pounds, so actually has some force behind it. Note however, they do eat souls. So watch out for that.

On the right is the Elananx! These person-sized fey felines smell like smoldering leaves in a bonfire and have an affinity with forest fires. Can even turn into clouds of burning embers, and thier bite can ignite things! They're sadists who like to toy with thier prey. They also get along great with others who share thier predilection for prey, often joining in hunts with redcaps and other Elananx for friendly competition.

What did I JUST SAY about not leaving things perfectly balanced! Vote more so it maybe at least lands on an odd number! XD

ttrpg-smash-pass-vs
ttrpg-smash-pass-vs

Fun fact: While considered one of the worst character assassinations of the late 2000's/early 2010's, Stephanie Meyer's changing of Jacob was an attempt to make him better. She thought he was boring and unlikeable, she was shocked by how many preferred him! So she thought she'd give the fans a gift..by making him possessive, aggressive, imprinted on an child, and more! You know, apparently positive traits in her brain, in an attempt to even the playing field.

Why mention this? I add anything I can conceive of as a benefit, even if it's not a benefit to me. But I'm always going to seem like I've skewed the occasional match or left out the best part. Sometimes that is just due to time or bias, but often that's just you being into very different things than me. Your "that's just a ____" is someone else's Top 10 pick. Every negative I give is met with at least a few cases of "you say that like it's a bad thing" or "obviously OP skewing it in their favor." So I encourage you to add your own reasons when spreading things around!

Its been a while, so as we move into the main event of a tournament here’s a reminder. Sorry if I left out someone’s acid spit or something, I’ve trying not to make the followup paragraphs not be TOO long!

WHICH WOULD YOU RATHER SMASH?

Zoaem

Lantern Archon

On the left, Zoaem, aka Lantern Archon version 2. These rings upon rings of lights upon lights are curious scouts for the forces of good. They can stun or fascinate you, turning your full focus onto them. They can also inspire you and it’s easier to remember whatever you’re thinking of when they’re near, which is just nice for conversation. The original godly Zoaem spilt itself apart into these to assist more people at once, and they can fuse thier way into temporarily becoming as strong as nearly any other archon. So they have great teamwork!

On the right, the OG Lantern Archon! They’re small, so a 2-4 foot (0.6-1.2 m) long…whatever that thing is. They can read the future, make you resistant to despair, shoot lasers, and if 9 of them gang up they can turn into a powerful humanoid warrior of light! Every Archon embodies a virtue, evolving as they grow stronger. This is the base form all come from, embodying hope. They’re actually great conversationalists, bubbly and happy to guide you out of your darkest moments- figuratively and literally.

WHICH WOULD YOU RATHER SMASH?

Fey Dragonet

Dandasuka

On the left is the Fey Dragonet! They’re around the size of a cat, and unlike most dragons instead of getting bigger they just get more shiny and vibrant. Their breath can fill you with joy while also massively clouding your thoughts and focus. They can turn invisible and have magic to create illusions, put you to sleep, and restrain with vines! They hate conflict and avoid it at all costs unless someone they like is in danger, and ADORE pranks. They use thier long lifespans to spend months or YEARS planning the perfect prank that will be spectacular while still only being a minor annoyance at worst.

Also known as “biters” due to thier constant hunger, the Dandasuka on the right are hyperactive gnome-sized spellcasting spies and assassins among the Rakshasa. They’re super loyal if fed regularly (with humanoid flesh) but also over-eager. So it’s a bit of a hassle to stop them from running off to kill anyone you’re mildly annoyed with. They can shapeshift into other small humanoids like halflings and goblins, have innate magic for spying and mind reading, and typically have honed sorcerous magic for dazing people, charming them, and making hallucinatory noises.

WHICH WOULD YOU RATHER SMASH?

Mu Spore

Guardian Naga

On the left, this eldritch fungal nightmare is called the Mu Spore. 100 ft (30.5 m) from tentacle tip to tentacle tip…minimum. Usually bigger. They’re flying apocalypses, raining down spores to weaken you and sucking people up in giant whirlwinds like Kirby. Really quick with grabbing people too. That said, they’re incredibly intelligent and speak 4 languages, so sometimes people are able to make peaceful contact and learn valuable and strange information while collecting fresh spores. Shoot your shot, after all if you’re alone you’re barely worth digesting anyway to a creature that size.

On the right is the guardian naga, wise and benevolent protectors of natural and supernatural sites! To them, the cosmos is worth protecting, and doing so is a fulfilling experience in itself. They’re typically around 14 feet (4.2 m) long, have a venom that drains your energy, and TONS of magic they wield like an oracle or sorcerer. Healing, flying, neutralizing poison, calming emotions, dazing, increasing your skill, etc.. and to answer a common confusion, when talking about snakes anything past thier vent (genital holder) isn’t included in length.

Skum

Otyugh

On the left, the Skum! Thier name is technically Ulat-Kini, but at this point even they’ve forgotten that, going be what others call them. They were rank and file soldiers and conquerers for the alghollthus, but when they retreated the left the Ulat kini to themselves. They’re exactly what they seem, basic human-sized violent fish people with decent strength.

On the right is the Otyugh. Yeah they’re intelligent, they’ll yell at people to fuck off if they come into thier home and give each other fun titles like “duchess of slime.” They’re sewer dwelling creatures, about 10 ft (3 m) tall + tentacles. The tentacles are fine, but don’t let it bite you or you’ll get Filth Fever. These things eat near anything, and will act as walking waste disposal. They smell horrendous as you might expect, but as long as you give them tribute (trash) and can stand the stench, they’re actually quite reasonable.

WHICH WOULD YOU RATHER SMASH?

Soulbound Doll

Faceless Stalker

See Results

On the left, the Soulbound Doll is a little doll that was imbued with a fragment of someone’s soul, making a new person sharing a strong personality trait. They’re made to be servants or friends, but have free will so that doesn’t always work out. If it does they’re usually administrators commanding other constructs, and are oddly powerful for something the size of a child’s doll. They can levitate, create a floating hand, can do little magical tricks like cleaning and making lights, and have a stronger spell based on their defining personality trait. A brave one might double in size, a jolly one might fill you with uncontrollable laughter, etc. Also, even if the body’s destroyed, their core gem can be put in a new one by a construct technician with no lasting harm!

On the right is the Faceless Stalker: the doppleganger, but worse! They’re bloodsucking human sized creatures that can turn into anyone between 2 and 8 ft (0.6 and 2.4 m) feet tall…by spending 10 minutes physically molding thier flesh into the correct shapes and colors. They’re sent out by alghollthu to destroy organizations from the inside, but many now roam free! It can also essentially speak any language, and is an expert at grappling :)
