nothing brings me more joy than critically engaging with media that was clearly not designed with critical engagement in mind. it’s the media studies equivalent of like, idk, trying to skateboard up a flight of stairs.

dick grayson says "i would KNOW if bruce died i would FEEL it" but what he really means is once a month he sits bolt upright and is like Oh My God Bruce Is Dead. I Can Sense It Intuitively. And It's My Fault. and of course bruce is fine dick just has ocd. but one day surely he will sense it for real

Hey Yutro! When DC announced that three issue thing by Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen, I was slightly excited— as I always am. Stupid naive hopes of getting a good jay comic, maybe hopefully? Then I read this:

"Batman has a new Robin, Jason Todd. Jason is a rash, impulsive and reckless kid with a troubled past, who Batman was certain could be molded into Gotham’s next protector. But can the Dark Knight save Jason Todd from the darkness within himself? Holy hell, where do I even begin? I'm so tired. They're so cruel to him.

I think no one in that hellish company understands the kind of people that see Jay as hope. As a child, there was a lot of shame I had in the actions I took to survive. Jason's story helped me. Aside from his robin days as well, I'm sure so many people have so much empathy towards his actions and him. I don't understand why DC is so set on portraying him in this cruel manner, even with Robin lives. I think I'm just tired. I wish his 80s run was longer, atleast then I wouldn't be cycling through the same few issues I have over and over haha

i'm holding your hand. i can't say i'm surprised, but i'm still disappointed -- and just as you, also very tired. i used to think a lot about how it was strange that dc never bothered to exploit the untapped potential of the missing years from jason's robin run (because we do literally miss years... there are so many weird time skips within it!). now i wish they remained ignorant of it.

but i'm glad that my fanfics bring you some respite in all of this:)! and i hope you're doing well too, stay safe!

this is def more than a line; a draft of a scene i’ve written last— (for a dc wip at least!)

“I’m taking Red Robin. And, by the way—” The rest of whatever Tim is saying is lost in the sound of Jason’s mind coming to a halt; a noise comparable to that of a plane taking off, just to turn into a static of high altitudes. Then, a crack - a crack of a skull, Bruce’s neck also snapped alongside, like a twig. Jason has heard bones busted, before and after — never so loud. And that pang…
A pang?
Jason blinks, eyes zeroing on a white ball rolling through a thin stretch of fake grass.
“Why is there mini golf in this office?”
“Wasn’t it here always?” Tim replies, leaning on the club. He makes a face when the ball misses the shallow hole by merely a hair.
“Yeah, but I’ve never seen Bruce playing it.”
“And I have.” Tim turns around to get another ball from a stand. Jason says nothing, but his feelings must be evident, because he adds: “It’s ironic. A part of the persona.”
“It’s just us two here.”
