The Moon Is the Sun at Night fanboy Fred Savage can barely contain his excitement as host of What Just Happened??!, Fox‘s after-show discussion for… a show that doesn’t really exist.
As revealed in the exclusive sneak peek above, What Just Happened??! With Fred Savage will “talk about all things The Flare,” a TV adaptation of (fictional!) author TJ Whitford’s (fictional!) sci-fi book series, which has (ostensibly!) been a favorite of Savage’s since childhood. (The [fake] book revolves around a solar event and its effects on Earth – specifically, the blue-collar town of Milford, IL – and slowly unfolds into a post-apocalyptic battle for human survival.)
Premiering Sunday, June 30 at 9:30/8:30c, the half-hour after-show (for a show that isn’t actually airing, anywhere) will feature multiple segments, including sit-down interviews with both cast members of The Flare and celebrity fans (including The Grinder‘s Rob Lowe and, of course, Ken Jeong), set visits and more.
In breaking down the “most hotly anticipated series in a generation,” Savage — who co-created the series — says, “We’re going to talk about The Flare, dissect it, compare it to the books, how it’s similar, how it diverges, why it diverges… I hope it doesn’t, too much!”
Watch the sneak peek above and then tell us if you’re on board for Fox’s meta bit of after-show spoofery.
Sounds like a waste of Fred Savage’s talent
Nah, a waste ofFred Savage’s talent was cancelling “The Grinder.”
Very true!
I feel like if I invited Ken Jeung to my birthday party he’d show up.
HA!!! This comment made my day.
Love the idea. Love the guests. This could be a very entertaining show.
I want to time-travel and be in on this pitch meeting. wtf just happened?
If this can be greenlit, then I want all of my cancelled-yet-awesome shows to have a final season, stat. Clearly, the networks have the cash to throw at things.
Right? How does something like this even make it past the brainstorming stage, let alone get picked up by a Big 4 network? sigh.
People gabbing on couches on one set I’m sure costs way less than pretty much any kind of scripted television. That said, this show seems nuts to me too.
How many episodes before this one is pulled? It looks awful.
Fred Savage needs a better agent or something. His recent projects have been pretty bad.
He co-created it.
Oh dear…
LOL!!
I disagree. The premise intrigues me a great deal. In a way, it reminds me of the great American novel “House of Leaves,” but in a different, satirical of “Talking Dead” kind of way. I plan on giving it a chance.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 meets Stranger Things
Could not stop laughing! It’s clearly not taking itself seriously and I am down for a good laugh this summer. Is this airing next to BH90210? Seems like they will be similar in tone and vibe. And probably confuse so many viewers.
How could you like this dumb TV show!?!? Yes I admit I was intrigued by the commercials but the show was nothing like them. . . VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!
Wow, Fox is really trying to confuse people. Between this and 90210 I don’t know what they are thinking. I was confused just reading this as to what this show is. I just don’t see how they can make a whole season out of this. It might be funny for an episode but I think a show about a show no one has seen would get old fast.
This sounds amazing.
Sad that a lot of people don’t seem to understand satire.
