Vanessa Lachey is flying high and Enver Gjokaj is looking dapper in dress whites in TVLine’s exclusive first look at CBS‘ NCIS: Hawai’i.
Premiering Monday, Sept. 20 at 10/9c (where it will lead of out a relocated NCIS), the new series stars Lachey as Jane Tennant, the first female Special Agent in Charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor. Agent Carter‘s Gjokaj, meanwhile, recurs as Navy Capt. Joe Milius, a high ranking commander of Pacific Fleet who arrives in Hawaii when a top secret experimental aircraft crashes into a cliff — and he in turn clashes with Tennant.
“When we first meet Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant, her brilliance and compassion are on full display when, after being pulled away from coaching her daughter’s soccer team, she heads to the North Shore to lead an investigation into a top secret Navy program,” executive producers Matt Bosack, Jan Nash and Christopher Silber shared with TVLine. “We can’t wait for viewers to get to know her and her team this September.”
Check out the first photos of NCIS: Hawai’i, then read on for more:
Tennant’s team includes Yasmine Al-Bustami (The Chosen) as Lucy, the eager, junior member; Jason Antoon (Claws) as Ernice, a cyber intelligence specialist; Tori Anderson (No Tomorrow) as Kate, an agent of the Defense Intelligence Agency who is intent on climbing the professional ladder; Alex Tarrant (800 Words) as Kai, a local who after spending most of his adult life running away from his home, has returned to Hawai‘i as an NCIS agent; and Noah Mills (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) as Jesse, a former big city homicide detective who’ has settled in a new life in Hawai‘i.
Additionally, Kian Talan (Brainchild) plays Tennant’s oldest child, Alex, a 16-year-old who is strong-willed and mature beyond his years.

My only problem with this series is that there are like no Asian people in the cast I’m aware of. Like, even Five-0 was better at representation. But this is Hawai’i! Would have been a lot better to have a cast that better reflected the API community, ESPECIALLY for the lead role.
I’m fairly certain Vanessa Lachey is half Filipino.
Isn’t Vanessa Lachey Filipino?
Vanessa Lachey is part Filipino as is Yasmine Al-Bustami and Kian Talen. Alex Tarrant is a Pacific Islander and one I am eager to see in the role as I had hoped for a lot of representation on that front. He is also very qualified for the role based on his training and experience.
I’m still a little worried about the 16 year old “mature beyond his years” son being played by a 28 year year old as I read he was born in 1993. That is a huge gap.
I plan to give the show a shot and leeway especially as they settle in. I don’t believe the writing EPs have much background re: Hawaiian culture so I definitely expect there to be a learning curve.
Alex Tarrant is also API, but you’re right – it’s fewer than you’d expect, for a show set in Hawaii.
Then again, NCIS is a naval organization after all, so it makes sense that more of the personnel would be mainlanders in comparison to a non-military police organization like Five-0.
ok thats a little better than I was expecting. I didn’t realize the heritage of some of those cast members.
Perhaps they should rename it NCIS: PC.
What are you even talking about.
It’s a No for this family on watching this new show!👎
This looks awesome!
I am still unsure about the casting. I can see the team not being native to Hawaii as they are US agents posted in Hawaii. But, I am not sure Lachey will be able to sell the lead. But, I will give it looks and hopefully be proven wrong. Hopefully, we will see some Pacific Islanders as guest stars and locals.
Kensey from NCIS LA had Hawaii ties, I wonder if she or Magnum or H50 characters will cross over?
Very strong possibility that the ME from 5-0 and Magnum will appear, we’ve already seen in NCIS: NO and LA that the ME’s are local officials rater than NCIS employees outside of the Washington office.
They should have Scott Bakula waiting in the wings just in case :-)
I agree about the cast. There’s not a lot of gravitas there, starting from the lead. I guess we’ll all see how it goes.
um this cast is groundbreaking for API representation, particularly for a show set in Hawaii, so I have no idea what yall are complaining about.
Filipinos are one of the largest demographics in HI and three of the main actors are Filipino/part Filipino. and there is a Pacific Islander in the main cast…
What am I missing? Byeeeeee
Still not sold on Lachey at all, I’ve caught a couple of her hallmark movies and she is not that strong an actress. Fine as a supporting role like Sean Murray is on the parent show, but as the lead? Hmmmm
Make Enver Gjokaj fulltime and I’m in.
Enver Gjokaj in dress whites? Yes please.!!!
Not familiar with Lachey’s body of work but I know that Gjokaj is stellar in all his work so I am happy to know that he’s been cast.
She looks more like a model then an NCIS agent in these photos. I’m not sure about her acting either, I haven’t seen much of her but she’s going to have to be really good because as I said she just doesn’t look like a federal agent.
Really don’t like lachey she really can’t act and I’m disappointed with it already sorry but won’t be watching have enough shows with awesome actors I’d rather watch
Sorry. I’m not buying this. Nothing wrong with Ms. Lachey as a person. However, her acting is weak to say the least. Maggie Q, Grace Park, maybe even Kelly Hu would be more convincing. 1 maybe 2 seasons max only because it’s part of CBS’ main franchise of this millennium
Can I be honest. I’m originally born and raised. Honolulu. Just because. Da producers, directors, writers. Chose these people. Having a #1. Main. Actress. Her self. I think. (the Maggio. Q, Like she’s formerly from. Honolulu! ). Maggio Q. I don’t care how much she gets paid. She would. Do the. Character. Awesomely!!$$
I’m not going to watch anyone of them Gibbs gone and so am I they took Hawaii Five-O off I’m not watching NCIS Hawaii…that’s my take
The “Leroy Jethro Curse ” is the main reason of all of the cast departures. Even the original director left because of his (Leroy’s) inflated ego!
The Big easy is hurt and pissed that CBS would kick it aside for Hawaii,
Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler CBS we hope the volcano erupts!
In this new series will there be any crossing paths with 5’O or Magnum?
There were cast members from NCIS: LA that have been in Hawaii to star in stories from and for one of those shows.
I would like to see a project with Bruckheimer and Bellisario as collaborators. I would not q1uite sure if Mr. Wolf could be added to the mix.
Still, where or what’s up with Gibbs?
