Bad news, Clone Club: Orphan Black: Echoes will not be printing out another season. The AMC/BBC America offshoot has officially been cancelled after just one season, TVLine has confirmed. (Our sister site Deadline first reported the news.)
The Orphan Black spinoff was set in the near future and took place in the same universe as the original. Echoes “takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence,” according to its official description, as it “follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal. Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) plays Lucy, a woman with an unimaginable origin story, trying to find her place in the world.”
Additional cast members included Keeley Hawes (It’s A Sin), Amanda Fix (High School), Avan Jogia (Now Apocalypse), Rya Kihlstedt (A Teacher) and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry).
Series creator Anna Fishko served as showrunner, executive-producing alongside Ritter, David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Nick Nantell, Kerry Appleyard, Katie O’Connell Marsh and original Orphan Black creator John Fawcett.
Echoes debuted in June with a 10-episode freshman season. The Aug. 25 season finale will now serve as a series finale. (Check out our post-finale chat with Fishko here.)

Too bad. I wanted another season, but reports suggested it did not make the needed impact with viewers. I wish these shows would plan their finales accordingly. It’s not necessary to end things with a OMG cliffhanger.
I still don’t understand why they decided to sit on it for so long stateside.
Exactly. I watched the entire season last November.
I dont fully get the decision either, but it strongly suggests that AMC/AMC+ had a low level of confidence in how the series would be received. And AMC might not haver been wrong considering those first two episodes, which were mediocre and kinda boring. Unfortunate since the series did pick up around episodes 3/4 and was pretty good overall.
I think expectations were too high for this. This is yet another show where if they hadn’t tried to tie it so close to original I think it would have done better. Too bad, I would have watched a second season
I’m a big fan of the original Orphan Black series. I didn’t watch “Echoes” and I’m sorry to hear that it has been canceled. Following behind Tatiana Maslany, and that wonderful cast of the original Orphan Black was a tough act to follow, even with one of my favorite actresses, Krysten Ritter as its star. I hope Krysten stars as “Jessica Jones” again.
A lot of years have passed since Jessica Jones was on. I would not get my hopes up for show to be saved now.
And daredevil… and yet kingpin was brought back and daredevil is getting a new show. I wouldnt rule out her playing JJ again as Netflix seasons werepretty well received
I’d guess that she’ll show up in a movie at some point, but possibly not as a huge part of the project.
She has already hinted that she is appearing as Jessica Jones in the new Daredevil show.
Yeah netflix had a 5 years after last episode aired syndication deal before a new show could air plus netflix has some sort of ownership in that universe so elements will change but other than that disney should be slow rolling these characters back to disney over the next couple years.
Not surprised by this cancellation. It was semi entertaining but nowhere near the caliber of the original.
Another great show cancelled!!! What a huge surprise!! Not!!
It wasn’t my favorite, but I hoped a 2nd season might be better. I came to it late, now I’m not quite sure whether to bother finishing the season.
Don’t. It ens in a profoundly unsatisfying manner.
And yet they’re still keeping the Walking Dead around? Why?
SERIOUSLY. Not only are they still keeping Walking Dead around but my gawd they actually keep adding to it — WTH AMC??!! They are stuck on a DEADend loop and they keep removing content a LOT faster than they’re adding it (unless it’s zombie related…UGH). AMC’s content focus has become increasingly siloed & singular (undead or nothing) — what happened to the brilliance of series such as Mad Men? Orphan Black? Rectify? Award winners such as those that brought AMC to the forefront is what they need to be doing — not adding to a one-note hit from 15 year ago…
And merch and conventions and theme park attractions.
Because people actually watch it maybe?
Because of ratings.
So many TV series are cancelled after just one season that it would make sense to engineer a show be a one season plot. You do fans a disservice by getting them hooked and then leaving them hanging. Networks always say poor ratings are to blame but fans are reluctant to get involved in a new show knowing that it will be cancelled too soon. It’s a self fulfilling prophecy.
Exactly.
Remember when Amazon had prime members vote on pilots for move to production (how mozart in the jungle came yo be)? I thought this was brilliant way of helping see how a show would do with a fill season. Dont know why this was dropped after one year as it seemed reallt clever to me
I was such a fan of the original, and that phenomenal cast that I couldn’t bear to watch. And if Tatiana maslany wasn’t in it, then I wasn’t going to waste my time.
So what you’re telling me is that Krysten Ritter’s calendar just opened up and can bring Jessica Jones to the MCU? Yes please!!!
It’s Disney MCU now though which is subpar so it won’t be the same Jessica Jones that we knew and loved, I don’t have high expectations for the new Dare Devil either.
I always laugh at comments like this.
So stupid.
I was looking forward to the next season, really upset there won’t be one. This was a great show.
I’m disappointed! It was enough different from Orphan Black to deserve its own spot. I quite liked it. Of course, I love Krysten Ritter and thought Amanda Fix was terrific as Jules!
I watched the first four episodes and DVR’d the rest. I thought it interesting enough and appreciated the effort to cast a younger looking Ritter (clone). Does it end on a cliffhanger? Is it worth finishing either way?
The fact that this only aired in the US almost 9 months after it debuted in Australia and 6 months after the UK, made no sense, and TBH, anyone who really wanted to see it, got hold of it through other means MONTHS ago…
Sad about this, AMC sucks. Would have helped if it hadn’t aired in other countries first if Tatiana wad in it & if they aired it a different time a couple of the episodes were opposite The Olympics. Maybe we can get an audio drama like they did 2 seasons of set when Kira was 13. Have no reason to watch AMC now.
It was sorta meh…. but agree that it got a little more interesting as it went along… I was a fan of the Podcast oriented audio series Tat did for 2 series and had some of the cast back for the 2nd one… I would enjoy a follow up to that maybe??? It’s now been 10+ years… Actors move on…
Typical. They renew generic crappy shows year after year but something different they cancel. But then OB never got the publicity it deserved either. Very sad
First of all, Echoes first three episodes were such slow and boring snore sessions. Second, once the fourth episode, finally, began to gain momentum, season one was abruptly derailed by more snore sessions of interpersonal relationship talk, talk, talk… Lastly, AMC and AMC+ both are guilty of series bias, dedicating excruciatingly too many hours, weeks, months, years, seasons, and now; decades on a dead horse, show, Walking Dead and its endless catatonic spin-offs. STOP BEATING A DEAD STORY… the Walking Dead story has been horribly overwritten and awkwardly obsessed by AMC and AMC+ bureaucratic drones.
