A: Contrary means it seems like a person always disagrees. It can be to the point that it seems they do it just to avoid agreeing with someone.

A: A better choice would be "I'm not making fun (a fool) of them, in fact I respect them." In fact in this case means something similar to 実は.. If you wanted to say this in Japanese, you wouldn't use バカにしてない、それと比べるとそんけんしています but you would rather say バカにしてない、実はそんけんしています。To your second question, I wouldn't use "even" because it indicates a lower limit (最低限) for example, "I even took out the garbage" ゴミも捨てたわよ　のような上目線な態度があります、この場いそれはNGです. The better choice would be I "actually" respect them. Which is the same as the first question "actually" = "実は."

A: Although these words are sometimes used interchangeably I think I would myself restrict them to particular situations:

Contrary - This is particularly associated with thinking or being something different almost as a character trait, and has connotations of being awkward.

Inverse - This is used in mathematics a lot and is perhaps best left in that field

Converse - For some reason I immediately think of a brand of trainers nowadays when this word comes up. Althought it is a fair choice it isn't one I would use.

Opposite - Now here's a word I would use often!

A: Contrary is an adjective. A statement is contrary to another statement if it says something opposite to the other statement. A person is contrary if they love arguing and contradicting other people.

Contrast is a noun. It is the state of two different things near each other, especially light and dark colors.

A: First of all, 'In the contrary' is incorrect.
As for the other two; On the contrary and To the contrary, the meanings are similar, but their usage are different. 'On the contrary' Is usually used to show that you disagree with something strongly. For example; "He said that she very was nice; on the contrary, I think she is very mean!"

While 'To the contrary' is used when you want imply the opposite of something without a strong denial. For example; "He kept smoking despite medical advice to the contrary."(So it isn't used as a strong expression in an argument when compared with the other.)
