Laura Guidry-Grimes
I am Assistant Professor Medical Humanities at the University of Arkansas for Medical Humanities in Little Rock, AR. I am also serving as a clinical ethicist at UAMS at the Arkansas Children's Hospital, the only pediatric hospital in the state. For my most updated professional website, please visit http://lauragg.com.
In my position as a Clinical Ethicist, I work with a team to help find ethically supportable resolutions in cases as diverse as those dealing with end of life decisions, complex pregnancies, code status, and religious objections to treatment, among others. I join the clinical teams for rounds throughout the hospital, and I assist with ethics consults.
I completed my PhD in Philosophy at Georgetown University in May 2017. From 2015-2017, I worked full-time as a clinical ethicist at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. In my time in the DC area, I served the Georgetown Institutional Review Boards, Kennedy Institute of Ethics, Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues, and Pan American Health Organization. I contributed to two large research projects, one on the Second Wave Initiative (promoting responsible inclusion of pregnant women in research) and one through a Complex Moral Problems Grant (addressing end-of-life decisions for individuals with profound intellectual disabilities).
In 2008 I graduated summa cum laude with Dual B.A.s in Philosophy and Religion at Florida State University. I pursued an interdisciplinary education by completing three minors: History and Philosophy of Science, English, and Theatre. I completed Honors Theses in Philosophy and in Religion.
